Should Willson be a year round School?
For the past few years I have wondered about Willson being a year round school. I believe it would be good for our students. They would not have a large learning gap in the summer and they would not have to spend the first part of the year reviewing what they learned the year before.
Being a year round school means that we would be in school for 9 weeks then we would be off for 3 weeks. We would stay on this rotation throughout the year. Instead of being off all of June, July, and part of August, we would only be off July. We would be in school most of June and start at either the end of July or beginning of August. It would just depend on the calendar.
This schedule would be consistent for you. There would no longer be a need for you to find child care for extended periods in the summer. With smaller breaks, there is less learning loss, and less time lost to reviewing procedures and materials. CMSD has already transitioned some of its High Schools to this model. We would be the first Prek-8 to do the same.
I would not ask if I did not think it would benefit our students. The decision is completely yours. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me, Ms Hale, or Ms Alfred. If you are comfortable voting now I have added a link below. Please clink on the link to submit your vote of either yes or no.
