Principal's Message
Hello CV Family,
It is hard to believe that we are two weeks away from the end of the first quarter. Our staff has been reviewing grades and student progress, and we are seeing a dramatic increase in student success. The end of the quarter can be a stressful time for students. Our teachers and staff are here to support your student. I would strongly recommend logging into Infinite Campus and checking your student’s grades and progress. If you have any questions, our teachers are here to help, please reach out to them.
I have four items to highlight, some of which are in the newsletter with more detailed information.
Please read through the information regarding student breakfast and lunch as students will be scanning their IDs starting Tuesday when they are served breakfast and lunch.
Coyote Time is built into your child’s schedule on Wednesdays. This time serves multiple purposes. It has been utilized to share some of our beginning of the year procedural processes such as statements of awareness, we have also used it to help students with organizational and time management skills, developing a growth mindset, as well as delivering content that we would typically have to interrupt the school day to deliver through special schedules. In feedback from the CVHS Site Council, we wanted to share the upcoming topics with you just in case you were interested in what we are sharing. There will be a Coyote Time segment of the newsletter that briefly addresses upcoming Coyote Time presentations. If you have any questions, Mrs. Duckett’s contact information is shared below, and you can reach out to her for more details.
Speaking of Coyote Time, we will do our annual SOS (Signs of Suicide) presentation this month. Content and information are shared below.
Devious Licks...If you are not aware, this is a Tik Tok trend where students are stealing items from schools or destroying school property and posting the act to the app. We all wonder why this is a thing, but it is having a major impact on many campuses, even to the extent that some campuses have missing sinks and toilets. Fortunately, our campus hasn’t been impacted by this as much as others, but we are not immune. The other positive is that our students have been reporting it when it takes place, and we are able to identify the students responsible and provide consequences. I wanted to bring it to your attention to encourage a conversation with your student and also to thank our students for holding their peers accountable and helping us put an end to it.
I would also like to share how exciting it was last week with our first home football game, first assembly, spirit week, AFJROTC, band, SRDC, and cheer performances, as well as our Welcome Back Dance, put on by StuCo. We are also into the season of concerts, and our first play kicked off this week! It is refreshing and creating a great atmosphere on campus! Have a great couple of weeks!
Best regards,
Mr. Tyler Dumas

note from administrative team
At Campo Verde High School we value the social and emotional well being of our students and surrounding community. During the week of September 27th- Oct. 1st, our campus will be recognizing Suicide Awareness Week. Our Behavioral Health Team, counselors, and student groups will be providing activities and resources throughout the week to promote our continued focus on wellness here at Campo Verde High School.
As part of Gilbert Public Schools’ (GPS) commitment to prevention education, we will be offering depression awareness and suicide prevention training as part of the SOS (Signs of Suicide) Prevention Program. The program helps students and adults demystify the confusion around what constitutes normal development and what may be a potentially serious issue. Please take this opportunity to have conversations with your student(s) about mental health and who they can rely upon for support should they ever deal with suicidal ideation. Please visit our CVHS Wellness Resources website for tips on conversation starters and resources available in our community.
On Wednesday, September 29th, students will view the SOS video during their third period class. Please review the attached form for further details on the program. If you do not wish for your child to participate, please complete the Opt Out Form and return it to our front office no later than Monday, September 27th. If we do not hear from you, we will assume your child has permission to participate.
Thank you for your continued support of Campo Verde High School!

Food services update
All students 18 years old and younger are entitled to one free breakfast combo meal and one free lunch combo meal per school day.
In order to administer the USDA Universal Free school meals program, we are required to show that we have a tracking system to avoid students not being charged for second meals.
Beginning Tuesday, September 21st, students will need to scan their student ID card when they receive their meal. This will be for record keeping compliance, no money will be subtracted for the transaction on the first meal.
If a student wishes to purchase additional meals, they can use their card again to authorize the purchase. Second meals will be charged at $4.25, (the regular meal price plus the reimbursement rate as directed by the National School Lunch Program.)

District Health Office Memo:
Dear Campo Verde Parents,
This school year we continue to work hard to keep our campuses safe and our students as healthy as possible. If one of our Nurses or Health Assistants calls to inform you that your student is ill or that they have been identified as needing to quarantine please understand that we are following the guidance of the Maricopa County Department of Health and the CDC, and that this is required by the Arizona Department of Health. We understand that having your child home from school for an extended period of time can cause undue stress and we appreciate your support in following these required guidelines. Thank you for your understanding and support of our nurses, health assistants, and front office staff during this challenging time. They are doing their very best for our families and it is important that we all work together.
Should you have questions or concerns please call the District Health Office at 480-545-2117.
*****
Just a few Friendly Health Office Reminders……..
*Please continue to complete the daily health assessment with your child EVERYDAY before
school. Please keep your child home if they are ill, have been around someone with COVID, or
if they have been tested for COVID until the results are returned.
*Visit https://www.gilbertschools.net/site/Default.aspx?PageID=715 for important COVID and general health information.
*If your child needs medication administered during the school day please contact the health
office. All medications must be checked into the Health Office. Students are not allowed to
carry medication with them at school unless the use of the following medication is required: epipens, inhalers, and diabetic emergency medications. However, these medications must be
checked in and accompanied by the appropriate forms to the Health Office prior to carrying
them at school. Forms can be found on the Gilbert Public Schools website under Health Services or in the Health Office.
*Medications may only be brought to school by a parent/guardian or another adult over the
age of 18. All medication will be in a properly labeled container from either the pharmacy for
prescription medication or in the original container for over the counter medication. Make sure to check the expiration date.
*Narcotic pain medication will NOT be administered at school.
*If a medication needs to be administered daily or is a prescription medication, a “Request for School Administration of Medication” form must be completed by both the parent/guardian and doctor before medication may be administered at school. This includes any over the counter medication that indicates it is not to be given to anyone under the age of 18, usually medication containing aspirin (example: Excedrin). This form is available on the Gilbert Public Schools website under Health Services or from the CVHS Health Office.
*If you received an immunization referral or your child got immunizations over the summer,
please bring the updated records to the Health Office.
*Please contact the Health Office for any questions.

sweep
Students who do not arrive to their first hour class on time will be redirected to the sweep room. A parent or guardian must physically enter the building to sign in the late student, otherwise the student will be directed to sweep. Parent phone calls will not excuse the sweep.
While in sweep students will not be able to work on assignments, socialize, or use any electronic devices. Procedures will be in place for students to make up class work and tests they may have missed when they were in Sweep. If a student is swept on a test day, the teacher will allow the student to make up the test. Students who have an assignment due will deliver it to the teacher that same day. All students will be informed of how the Sweep program will be integrated into their school day.
Students who demonstrate repeated tardy behavior will be subject to the progression of interventions and disciplinary action in an effort to encourage and teach proper time management skills. Consequences for sweep will go as follows:
1st Tardy Offense: Students will be sent to sweep for the remainder of the class period and it will be documented.
2nd Tardy Offense: Students will be sent to sweep for the remainder of the class period and receive a referral.
3rd Tardy Offense: Students will be sent to sweep for the remainder of the class period.

August Academic Students of the Month
campus wellness
Hi everyone!!
Campo Verde High School is working hard to bring wellness to our campus year round. One aspect of this is to get students up and moving during lunch. Our goal is to have lawn games out at lunch once every two weeks. Due to limited funds, we are reaching out to our parents and business communities to ask for lawn game donations such as cornhole, Jenga, Spikeball, jump ropes, hacky sacks, ladder game, etc. Our first Wellness Friday will be on October 1st and would love to have some games for students to play.
We would appreciate anything you can donate. Below is the Sign Up Genius for items we thought students would enjoy. You can drop off your donation in the front office.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thank you for all your support! :)

freshmen family meetings
Attention freshmen families--the counseling team is starting Freshman Family Meetings. Please see the communication below that was sent out through email:
We would like to welcome our Freshmen Coyotes to the Campo Verde High School family!
School counselors work to address student’s academic, career, and social-emotional development ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow. CVHS Counselors are assigned to students by an alphabet split of last names, please see your student’s assigned counselor below.
The transition from middle school to high school can be challenging (lots of questions, planning out classes, making new friends, where do I fit in?). High school years are full of growth, promise, excitement, frustration, disappointment, and hope. It is the time when students begin to discover what the future holds for them. Our hope is that we can help make that transition a little less stressful. We would like to meet with YOU and YOUR STUDENT for a 30 minute individual Freshman Family Meeting either in person or via webex. During this time we will discuss your student’s four-year plan, goal setting, and your counselor can answer any other questions you may have.
PLEASE SIGN UP for a meeting date and time below through Calendly with your assigned counselor. We look forward to meeting you and we are excited to work with you and your child throughout the next four years! Go Yotes!
PLEASE NOTE: These available time slots are for Freshmen Family Meetings Only.

Library Updates
*********************************
Library Information:
In preparation for Suicide Prevention Week, we have created a mental wellness display. The focus is on mental well being while also providing resources. There are books that provide information on meditation and other calming techniques. At the same time, there is a hotline number provided for immediate help. We hope our coyotes know we care and are here to help.
Chromebook Information:
If a student is having problems with his/her Chromebook, the place to go is the library. We will put it in for repair and give the student a loaner Chromebook until the original is fixed.
Tip: Once students login to their Chromebook, they will have a landing page (GPS Portal) that has icons that provide once click access to common programs they use, such as Infinite Campus or their email. Students should always keep this tab open and use these icons for quick, reliable use of the Chromebook.
