Notes from the Principal
Hello Parents,
I recommend you cut out the Calendar-at-a-Glance and put it on the fridge, there's a lot going on these last three weeks!
Did you notice the article in the Superintendent's newsletter about report cards? In case you missed it, we are piloting a project to have parents access their child's report card on the Parent Portal. It will be available on Friday, June 16th. We will have a short video available to remind parents how to access it and provide a quick Google Form for anyone who might want a printed copy.
In memory of all our family members in the Armed Services, have a terrific 3-day weekend; take some time to read with your child.

Spring Concert, June 7th
Spring Concerts, Wednesday, June 7th:

- Grades 2 & 3 - 9:20-9:50
- Grades 4 & 5 - 10:20-11:00

Field Day, June 8th
2023 Orchard Field Day!
Field Day at Orchard will be on Thursday, June 8th! Field Day is an opportunity to build our school community, play outside, and celebrate a great school year. Students will get to participate in a variety of activities and enjoy some less structured time together. Among the options for activities, there are some that include water so students that might partake in these should bring a towel and a change of clothes. We’re hoping for a sunny day so sunscreen will also be important!
3rd/4th/5th Grade events will be from 9:15-11:15.
Kindergarten/1st/2nd Grade events will be from 12:50-2:10.
If you have any questions or would like to volunteer to manage a station, let me know!

1st Graders Celebrating Memorial Day
Notes from our Medical Office
Reminders for the Upcoming Memorial Day Weekend
Avoid Cold Water!
✓ Body heat can be lost 4 times faster in cold water than in cold air. Cold water drains body heat fast!
✓ Cold shock from plunging into cold water can be severe even with temperatures of 50-60F (Lake Champlain's surface water temperature is currently 46-50F).
✓ Wear a life jacket when venturing out onto cold water (including when kayaking and paddleboarding).
✓ Consider staying off/out of the water until it the water temperature is warmer.
Use Insect Repellent!
To protect from tick and mosquito bites, look for repellents that contain:
✓ DEET
✓ Picaridin
✓ IR3535
✓ Oil of lemon eucalyptus (OLE)
✓ Para-menthane-diol (PMD)
✓ 2-undecanone
Find the right repellent for you by using the EPA's search tool HERE.
Avoid applying insect repellent on a child’s hands, eyes, mouth, cuts, or irritated skin.
Adults: Spray insect repellent onto your hands and then apply to a child’s face.
