7:00 - 7:10 Third Hour

Students will be completing a schedule in their 6th hour class on the 20th to bring home for your reference. STUDENT PLANNERS
The planners are a great tool for students to note assignments, upcoming assessments, and other important classroom information.
WALLED LAKE NORTHERN HIGH SCHOOL HOMECOMING PARADE
Friday, September 22nd, 2023 is the Walled Lake Northern Homecoming Parade. WLN would like for students from each of its feeder middle schools to join and walk in the parade!
All students participating will need to arrive at 5:00pm that day, and the parade will start at 5:30pm. When the students arrive, they will meet on the North Side of the school. There will be signs to help assist them and we will direct them to where they will be walking in the parade. We would also like students to make signs or posters with the schools name on it. Students will hold the posters as they walk through the parade
Northern will be providing “Future Knight” shirts for those students who attend. For students that are participating, they ask that a parent/ guardian accompany their student to ensure that the parade runs smoothly.
The lineup will start at 5:00 and the parade will officially start at 5:30. Students should arrive at 5:00. When you arrive, please meet on the North side near the picnic tables. There will be various signs placed around the school to help you locate where you need to go. Students from Northern will direct each school to where they will be walking in the parade (this will be behind the class councils floats, towards the end).
Please RVSP using the Google Form link below so we can accurately plan for our students.
RSVP to Join the WLN Homecoming Parade
This will be a great way for all of our feeder schools to get excited for their future at Walled Lake Northern High School. We look forward to seeing you there!
Thank you!
CHS GOAL ACHIEVEMENT PROGRAM
Welcome to the new school year! Don't forget our GAP program- you or your student may have already received a packet at Smart Start. This Goal Achievement Program, or GAP, provides students with the opportunity to work towards and meet objectives throughout their middle school years in four main areas: Citizenship, GPA, Reading Hours, and Community Service.
All students are enrolled in the program from the start of the school year, and will be rewarded for completing their milestones. Please click on the tab below for further information. If you have any queries on this subject, please do not hesitate to reach out to Andi Parel at AndiParel@gmail.com.
We are excited to offer a way to give back to Clifford H Smart Middle School! On 9/20/2023 we will be kicking off an event to help raise funds that will benefit all of our students and staff. Our Next Level program, will help with funding updating the courtyard, fulfilling teacher and staff wish lists, and supporting Smart's programs and activities.
It is going to be AWESOME and we are excited to get started!
A few things to note:
- This program will be extremely easy for you. It only requires about 10 minutes of your time.
- Your students can earn great rewards, just for their effort. No money required!
- This is an online, donation-based fundraiser, and the email and text message donation requests can go to people you know anywhere in the world. That means no direct pressure on your shoulders.
Students will be bringing home more information next week after our Launch Party presentation. Please help your student register and complete the Golden Ticket assignment that very night! All students who complete the Golden Ticket assignment will receive fun PRIZES and it does not require any money to register. We will also have drawings for several days during the fundraiser to give away awesome prizes like gift cards, Air Pods, Mini Fridges stuffed with Cash, and even 2-$250 cash awards!
I will be sending more emails throughout the two-week program. Please contact me directly if you have any questions. Thank you in advance for your support!
Sincerely,
Dan Holland
Assistant Principal, Smart Middle School

HELP WANTED!
COVID District Policy Update
As you know, the Federal COVID-19 Public Health Emergency has ended and all remaining state epidemic orders have been rescinded. This, however, does not change the recommendation to take precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, such as isolation and masks. The expectation is that staff, students, and family members will follow the recommended guidelines regarding COVID-19. With that said, at this time, for the 2023-24 school year, COVID-19 positive cases will no longer be monitored at the District level and timelines will not be provided. Please see below for next steps when a positive case is reported to you:
· Report absence and subsequent absences in Skyward as Ill-Excused.
· Report the number of positive cases to the Oakland County Health Division as part of the your building’s weekly aggregate counts via their online portal.
· Advise families to follow recommended guidance from their physician, the Centers for Disease Control, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and/or the Oakland County Health Division.
· COVID cases no longer need to be reported on the WLCSD COVID Report Form, nor do they need to be reported to the corresponding teacher(s)/class(es).
· Building office staff will not be required to track and monitor COVID isolation timelines, nor should they give COVID-19 guidance.
· COVID-19 questions or concerns should be directed to their physician or the Oakland County Nurse On Call Line at 800-848-5533.
· Questions regarding protocol within the District should be directed to Ms. Kelly Baier - Human Resources or Mrs. Tacoma Corbin - District Nurse.
Student Chromebook Support Request

Please make sure to check your gmail after submitting for an email response from Mrs. Stasak or one of her interns within 24 hours of your submission. Thank you.
*Reply @LEAVE to the number you are receiving messages from if you'd like to leave the text group at anytime.
Head Lice (Pediculosis) Practice
We make every effort to prevent the spreading of head lice. Please note that head lice is a nuisance and not an issue of cleanliness or hygiene. The incubation period for head lice is several days or weeks. Eggs hatch in 7-10 days. Maturity reached in two weeks. The period of communicability is until lice and viable eggs are destroyed. We rely on our families to report cases of head lice immediately so we can take the appropriate action to address this issue. When a case is reported, a letter will be sent home with children in that classroom. Students found to have head lice will be sent home at the end of the school day and not permitted to return to school until the first treatment is completed and all nits are gone. WLCSD is a nit free District.
FROM THE ATTENDANCE DESK
If your child will be absent, please call the Smart Attendance Hotline (248) 956-3510 as soon as possible. If you know of a vacation or pre planned days off, you can leave those dates on the hotline as well.
If you have not called your child in by 9:30 a.m., you will receive a call from Mrs Gray to verify that your student is not at school for the day. Thank you for partnering with us in keeping your children safe and accounted for.
