Modeling: Clear Explanations Example
Take a look at the diagram below. Note the teacher is using "clear explanation" as a form of modeling today's learning outcomes. The quotes on the right show examples of what the teacher might say using this strategy.
Modeling: Planned Examples
Take a look at the diagram below. The teacher is using planned examples. Please note the teacher uses three DIFFERENT examples of division formats. The teacher also employs a non-example. This can help with addressing misconceptions and solidifying what it IS and what it IS NOT. He/she also tied it to a real world example (word problem) of when division might be used.
In the next week, think about how you can use these strategies in your lesson planning and then give it a try!
