Message from the Acting Headmaster
Term Two is a time to reset our goals. Hopefully the major disruptions of Covid-19 are behind us and we can get on with our normal school life.
While we have had interruptions to our schooling, our students need to complete assessment tasks and focus on the requirements of their courses.
Winter Sport has started and I ask both players and supporters to adhere to our code of conduct.
The Super 8 winter sports competitions are about to start and I wish all those teams the best of luck. It is an exciting and busy term for everyone

Interhouse Bombing Competition
This event was held on the same day as the Relay for Life. Each house entered students and their attempts were judged based on volume, pop, form and height.
Tuakana-Teina program with prefects and Year 9 classes
COVID restrictions have caused a delay in starting the programme; from now on each Wednesday form time prefects spend time in Year 9 form classes, developing a tuakana-teina relationship. The tuakana-teina relationship provides a model for buddy systems, with an older or more expert tuakana helping and guiding a younger or less expert teina. It is a learning environment that recognises the value of ako (reciprocal learning).

News from the Careers Department
To enable our school leavers to make decisons about their tertiary education, our Careers Department liaise with universities and other tertiary providers to organise presentation to Year 12 and 13 students.
Due to Covid many of the Universities have chosen to have these presentations online but we have been lucky to have the following come into school to present and promote to our students.
Waikato University
Lincoln University
Massey University
Canterbury University
Victoria University of Wellington
We had online presentations with Auckland University of Technology, The University of Auckland and Otago University.
The Careers Department encourages senior students and parents to keep looking at the Careers section of the school website and sign up to the Careers News/Job Opportunities group on the School App for student job opportunities.

Hawke's Bay Futsal Challenge Cup
This year Hastings Boys' High School entered the newly created Hawke's Bay Futsal Challenge Cup. The Seniors, with a new and young team competed well. Unfortunately, due to Covid, training sessions were halted and games had to be defaulted. They were unable to play the final round due to player illness. The standout players were HB representatives, Callan Robson and Christian Niederer.
The Juniors made their way to the final with victories over Napier Boys' High School and Havelock North High School. Although composed mostly of Year 9s, our boys fought gallantly against the much bigger Year 10 Napier Boys' High School, eventually losing 5-2. Isaac Hillard won the Golden Gloves award and with many young players coming through, the future looks bright for futsal at Hastings Boys’ High School.
Special thanks to Jeff Robson and Old Boys Isaac Belcher, Alex Eaglestone and Ollie Keith for coaching and managing the teams.
