Welcome Mr. Hadfield!
We are pleased to introduce Mr. Tom Hadfield, who has been hired for the position of full-time assistant principal at Sappington Elementary School, for the 2023-24 school year.
Mr. Hadfield comes to Lindbergh from the Ladue School DIstrict, where he has worked since 2004 as a classroom teacher in grades 3 and 5, and currently a physical education teacher at the Ladue Fifth Grade Center. A fun fact about Mr. Hadfield is that the “Live With Regis and Kelly” show named him one of only five “Top Teacher Award” winners nationwide in 2010!
Mr. Hadfield’s areas of expertise include teacher mentorship; character education; professional learning; behavior management; restorative practices; diversity, equity and inclusion; and school safety. In addition to pursuing his doctorate, Mr. Hadfield holds a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, both from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

LEAP Students Service Learning Project
Third grade LEAP (Lindbergh Eager Achievers Program) students are studying the UN Global Goals this year. We are currently learning about Global Goals 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 & 16 in a unit on Poverty. Several speakers have visited us in the last few weeks. We want to make a difference for some of their organizations. We want to collect food for the Affton Food Pantry and diapers and pull-ups for the St. Louis Area Diaper Bank.
We have placed 2 collection boxes in the lobby of Sappington to collect donations from April 3-April 28. We appreciate your support!

Nominate a Special Lindbergh Teacher for #TeacherProud Tuesday
Calling all students, parents, and community members: Lindbergh Schools wants your nominations for #TeacherProud Tuesday! Tell us about a teacher who works in our schools who has made a difference in your life, and they might be selected to be featured on social media as part of #TeacherProud Tuesday, a statewide social media initiative that is designed to recognize outstanding teachers and promote public education. On the second Tuesday of each month, Missouri school districts will recognize a #TeacherProud Tuesday honoree for going above and beyond, and making a difference in the lives of students.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is April 22
Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That's dangerous and often tragic. The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects a commitment to Americans’ safety and health, encouraging the public to remove unneeded, unwanted and expired medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction.

Medicaid Renewal: Important Update
MO HealthNet (Missouri Medicaid) is now requiring families to update their addresses and possibly their eligibility every year. Families that do not follow the steps below will be dropped from Medicaid and have to reapply, so it is important that families eligible for Medicaid coverage do the following:
Update your address if you have moved. This can be done online, by visiting a local resource center, or by calling 855-373-4636.
Watch for a letter in the mail. Renewal letters should arrive between April 2023 and April 2024. You will need to follow the instructions on the letter you receive to complete the process.

Board Approves 2023-24 School Year Calendar
The Lindbergh Schools Board of Education voted in October to approve the 2023-24 school year calendar. The first day of school for students will be on Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2023, and the last day will be on Friday, May 24, 2024. For more details, please click the link below.
How to Email Your Student’s Teacher
Communicating with your student’s teacher is easy to do, even if you don’t have their email address. This summer, Lindbergh Schools has removed teacher email addresses from the public-facing district website in response to security recommendations our district Technology Department received from the Department of Homeland Security, to help prevent malicious phishing attempts. However, teacher contact information is still available in the SIS Portal and Canvas, by following these directions:
SIS Portal (Grades PK-12)
Log in to the SIS Portal
Click “Send Email” in the left-hand menu
Select which teacher(s) you want to message by checking the box next to their name
Click “Ok”
On the next page, fill out the subject line and text of your message
Click “Send”
Canvas (Grades 6-12, and some elementary)
Lindbergh teacher contact information is listed on each Canvas course homepage. This information includes e-mail address, phone extension and office hours. If your student’s teacher does not have their contact information listed, please let us know.
Meal Prices and Meal Account Balance Reminder
As a reminder, school meals are no longer free this year. Meal prices are as follows:
Breakfast is $1.65
Elementary student lunch is $3.15
Middle and high school student lunch is $3.30
Reduced lunch cost is $0.40
Beginning this fall, the U.S. Department of Agriculture is no longer providing school breakfast and lunch free of charge, so it is essential that families check their student’s meal balance in the SIS Portal and make sure that funds are available for meal purchases.
How to check your balance:
Log in to the SIS Portal
Your username is your email address. Please use the “Forgot your parent password?” link if you are unable to access the system.
You can view the “Meal Service Balance” on your student’s dashboard. Look for the blue icon with the apple.
If you need to add funds, click on the “Meal Service Balance” button to add money or view students’ purchase activity
Free and Reduced-Price Meals
Families who qualify for free or reduced-price meals can fill out an application for the 2022-23 school year. The free and reduced-price meals application is available as an e-form this year, and can be found on the SIS Portal.
Device Protection Plan Reminder
As a reminder, all students in grades 4-12 who are not signed up for Lindbergh’s device protection plan will be fined the full cost of any damage, loss, or theft of their device and accessories.
To sign up online:
Click on the Technology square.
Click Add Student; enter your student’s 10-digit Student ID and Last Name.
Click on Optional Fees to add the device protection plan to your cart.
Follow steps to check out.
Families may also pay with cash or a check (made payable to Lindbergh Schools) at your student’s school office.
Contact techinsurance@lindberghschools.ws for further assistance.
Please note that intentional damage to the device or accessories is not covered by this protection plan.
Winter Weather Update for Families
As colder weather approaches, now is a good time to remind families and staff how we prepare for potential school closures that can result from snow, ice, or other severe weather events.
In the event of inclement weather, we will decide to close school based on a number of factors, including student safety, bus transportation, road conditions and wind chill temperature. When possible, the decision to close school is made by 10 p.m. the night before. However, if the decision cannot be made by 10 p.m., then a decision will be made between 5 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. the next morning.
If the decision is made to cancel school, all families and staff will receive a phone call, text message and email notification.
