SVDP School
August 2020
Dear SVDP Community,
Happy Friday! I was really happy to sit with each class during our Back to School Night sessions. Hopefully, you were able to meet our Parent Guild this morning and hear about all the great things they do for SVDP. During the Guild meeting, I was participating in a conference call with the Department of Catholic Schools. Here is the latest information I have regarding the waiver and the return to school.
Please note, no matter how / when we are allowed to return to campus, we would re-introduce the students in phases. This will be done to consider the safety of all, as well as any criteria from the San Francisco Department of Public Health.
Currently, the waiver is intended to be issued to schools while San Francisco is still on the watchlist. SVDP has filed their intent to apply for a waiver with the diocese, and the diocese has filed our intent with the city. Now we wait. The application for the San Francisco waiver does not currently exist. Because we have filed our intent to apply, the application will be sent to me when available. At this point, we have done all we can do towards the waiver process. Once submitted, if the application is approved, it would be possible to return to some form of on-campus learning (for us, in phases).
If the city comes off the watchlist and remains off the watchlist for 14 days (and no waiver has been applied for / or approved), all schools would be allowed to host on-campus learning in some format (for us, in phases).
In today’s meeting, we learned that the diocese is extending Distance Learning to September 18th…returning to school on September 21st. This date will only be applicable IF the city has been off the watchlist for 14 days as of September 18th.
I know based on our surveys and some one-on-one conversations, that some of you are concerned about the return to school until a vaccine has been approved and is readily available. As stated in earlier communications, we will continue to offer Distance Learning to those wishing to remain online on a trimester by trimester basis (based on the status of a vaccine).
Directions regarding school re-openings are ever-changing. At SVDP, we are committed to bringing our students back to campus when it is safe to do so. In the meantime, we will continue to communicate as we learn of changes and updates to the waiver and watchlist process. For additional information, please visit our Infection Mitigation Plan which is available on our website www.svdpsf.com.
Have a nice weekend.
Together, we are SVDP!

Modified School Days versus Minimum Day Dismissal
Modified School Day Schedule: Our school day hours remain 8:00 am to 3:00 pm. Students will receive instruction (either on campus or remotely) about 5 1⁄2 hours a day. School days will include core subjects - Religion, ELA, math, social studies, and science. Students will be dismissed for lunch at home, which will be followed by a self-directed, co-curricular subject and a virtual closing circle at 2:30 pm. Office hours are available from 3:00pm to 3:30pm or by appointment.
Minimum School Day Schedule: The school day ends at 12:30pm for students so that teachers can participate in staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
