A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal
Happy Sunday GRHS Longhorns,
We are already closing out the first six weeks this week! Make sure you are focusing on your studies and making sure everything is turned in so there are no surprises for eligibility! Procrastination is not your friend in high school.
Thursday we ran more safety drills, including a Lock Down Drill. Our Longhorns did a great job following the procedures by staying quiet and out of sight for the duration of the drill. We are doing daily safety campus walks to ensure that exterior/interior doors are locked and secure throughout the day. The State of Texas has chosen Lamar CISD as a district they will be auditing for safety during the month of September. These will be unannounced visits to various campuses. With our Longhorns practicing and following these safety procedures and protocols on a daily basis, I expect this to be smooth if they happen to visit the Ranch! Thanks for helping us stay safe, by adhering to our daily safety measures!
Tuesday we are GOING GOLD at the Ranch to raise awareness for childhood cancer research! Join us by going BOLD in GOLD that day and buy a GOLD OUT cupcake for $2 (while supplies last) from the Longhorn Depot during all lunches. All proceeds from the cupcake sales will go towards as Longhorn Nation donation to Mojo's Miracle Foundation! Read more about this amazing foundation and what all they have done to make cancer patient wishes come true!
GRHS FFA is really rocking the Fort Bend County Fair with their animal showings! Check out all the pictures below for what we have done so far! Way to go Longhorns!
Great news, the pre-ordered ABC Spirit Bundle shirts are finally in! ABC will be set up at tables in front of the cafe on Tuesday and Wednesday during all lunches to pass them out to your Longhorn!
ID's MANDATORY! $5 replacement charges in place now!
ID's (lanyards and a protective case) have all been passed out and MUST be worn visibly on the top half of your body EVERY DAY! I have been announcing this EVERY SINGLE MORNING and periodically through the day for the past 4 weeks. If you do not have one, this is on you. You have had MANY opportunities to correct this, so now it's your turn to be responsible. We will be doing ID sweeps AGAIN this week, and anyone without one will be charged $5 and given a new one. This is NOT optional, as it is part of dress code. If you keep losing it you will KEEP being charged. You (and your parents) will be getting weekly "fine" email reports, and your parents will be called. Not paying is not an option, and there will be a hold placed on your final semester grades and exemptions will NOT be an option.

RESTROOM ZONES - KNOW THE RULES!
RESTROOM ZONES GO INTO EFFECT MONDAY!
This will serve three purposes:
- It will keep students closer in proximity to their scheuduled classroom which aligns with our safety and security plan.
- Cuts down on lost instructional time, as they tend to wander and meet up with friends, instead of actually using the restroom and getting back to class.
- It is easier to track (and saves us precious time) when we have to use the cameras to identify vandalism done to the restrooms. (FYI: this results in an ALC placement)
YELLOW ZONE = 1300 & 1500 Hallway/Classrooms (downstairs)
BLUE ZONE = 1400 & 1600 Hallway/Classrooms (downstairs)
GREEN ZONE = 2100 & 2300 Hallway/Classrooms (upstairs)
PURPLE ZONE = 2000 & 2400 Hallway/Classrooms (upstairs)
*Any student found NOT in their correct "zone" starting Wednesday will be assigned consequences.
*No other restrooms should be used. If you are at lunch, you will use the restrooms right beside the cafeteria. If you are in PE/athletice/dance you will use the gym/locker room restrooms. No other students should be in these restrooms throughout the day.
Due to high demand and enrollment, we are Running short on student calculators to check out. If you have your own at home, and can use that instead that would be great. Or if you would like an online downloadable one, we can give you a free license for that. Please contact Ms. Guidry with questions or to check yours back in for one of the other options! We appreciate your help!

PAP/AP Level Drop Process- Must be Followed Exactly as Written!
At GRHS we strongly encourage our students to remain in their AP/PAP classes at a bare minimum of the entire 1st six weeks in order for them to get settled and give it a true chance. What seems impossible at first ends up being the best thing for them to set them up for later success. The struggle is where the growth happens, our longhorns truly have what it takes, if they are just willing to work for it!
However we understand that extenuating circumstances may arise where a student may need a level change. Students can request a level change during the 1st progress report (Friday Sept 9th) and again at the end of the 1st six weeks (Friday Sept 30th)
If this pertains to you, please EXACTLY FOLLOW ALL THE STEPS BELOW and return this completed form to the Counselor Suite Office (room 2327) no later than 3:45 PM on the last day of the 3rd week (PR1, September 9, 2022) of the 1st six weeks, or the last day of the 1st six weeks (SW1, September 30, 2022).
Steps for students to level change
Step 1: Student receive form from teacher of record for the class they wish to level change
Step 2: Student Teacher Conference
Step 3: Parent Conference
Step 4: Student must bring form to Counselor Office by deadline (See form) (1st Progress Report and 1st Six Weeks)
Students must get form from their teacher of record for that specific class.
Dual credit students DO NOT have to wait until the end of the progress report to request a course drop/change. Their drops are tied to a refund and their refund depends on when Lone Star receives the request to drop, then we don’t make them wait if they want to drop a dual credit course. Dual Credit Course drop forms are requested by students from their alpha counselors. (Don't wait!)

ALL GRHS ID'S HAVE BEEN HANDED OUT! WEARING YOUR NEW ID IS MANDATORY EVERY DAY FOR STAFF AND STUDENTS. You are accountable for following this safety and now dress code expectation every single day. There is a $5 REPLACEMENT CHARGE, so put it in a safe place each day!!
This year, as we continue to increase campus safety measures, students and staff are required to wear their GRHS identification badge at all times. This measure has also been added district wide to the student dress code. This is not a new expectation at GRHS, as I have had this in place for the past 4 years that I have been here, so our students/staff are well aware of this expectation and will be held accountable to it.
Student badges will serve as the student ID and SmartTag all in one card. With this ID our GRHS students are able to ride the bus, purchase breakfast/lunch, check out library books, able to use their personal devices (phones/airpods, etc) during lunch and advisory.
Refusing to wear your ID visibly on the top half of your body, is not an option, and will result in the consequences stated on the consequence chart below. Please make sure you are wearing your OWN ID.
Every GRHS student has been gifted an ID, protective plastic cover, and lanyard. It is imperative that our Longhorns adhere to this expectation, as this is part of the daily dress code for staff and students. If you need another badge or lose this one there is a $5 replacement cost. This is NOT optional, it is part of dress code. You can pay by cash or it will be charged to your student library account, for EACH replacement you need. Please note that a hold will be placed on your semester grades, transcripts, and exemptions if this fine is not cleared.
Need a REPLACEMENT ALREADY?
If you are needing to PURCHASE ANOTHER student ID, please use the QR code (above) to request one. You can either pay $5 cash when you pick it up, or we will charge your school library account if you do not have cash. Emails will be sent in Skyward to parent and student emails each time you are charged.
Choose a safe spot in your backpack to put it at the end of the day (EVERY DAY) and it will be ready and waiting for you the next morning.

FOOTBALL
We Tied Up The Tigers This Week!
Freshman Maroon Longhorns played in a thriller last night at Travis HS. The GRHS defense set the tone on the first drive with a safety. It stayed 2-0 until the Tigers got lucky on a long ball and went up 2-7. After a lot of back and forth action against some solid defenses, the Longhorns were able to put together a go ahead touchdown drive. After pounding in the two point conversion the Longhorns went up 10-7. In the last four minutes of the game the GR defense bowed up and stopped the Tigers' last chance at a game winning score.”
The Freshman black team played a hard-fought game against the Fort Bend Travis Tigers. It was a back-and-forth game with great plays for the Longhorns on offense and defense, the Longhorns made just enough plays to not loose, but not enough plays to win, causing the game to end in a tie. The Freshman black continues to improve and will host rival Ridge Point High on September 29th at 4:30 PM.
The Longhorns took on the Katy Cinco Ranch Cougars Thursday Night at George Ranch. The cougars won the contest by a score of 24-6. Offensively, the Horns were able to move the ball but were unable to punch it in on the plus side of the field. Brandon Everett scored the lone score on a 63-yard run. The Horns defense kept it close for a while with Teagan Gregg forcing a fumble in the first half, and Caleb Fontenot with 3 tackles.
Varsity took on Ft. Bend Travis on Thursday night and pulled a "W" to make them 3-0 in district! This week is a BIG week as they take on Ridge Point on Friday! Get that camo ready and show up STRONG for the home game on Friday Night at 7:00PM.
