Prayer
Lord, lift us up for Your blessings.
We pray that you will anoint us with strength and self-care today, tomorrow and always.
We pray that you will grace us with patience and wisdom.
We pray that You will encourage us throughout the day
to take the correct steps to walk proudly and behave well.
We pray all of these things in Your name!
Amen.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Families,
As I write this newsletter, I am feeling the stress from parents, students, and teachers as we enter another Shelter-in-Place month. These events we are all experiencing are certainly a new experience and something we are not used to. It is the time when everyone needs to think before acting and before making cutting remarks to family members and other people. It is certainly a stressful time for all.
It is a time to remember when Jesus had all the various groups against Him, and He appealed to their humanity to love thy neighbor. We must not lose sight of the Gospel during these times. For some of our families, it is more difficult as they have been the first responders in the medical field and are seeing people struggle for their lives.
Let us keep in mind those people who are working with all aspects of this Covid-19 situation. Wellness of families is very important. Here is a link to questions that you may wish to explore regarding these times and wellness of students
On a brighter note, we have seen some wonderful things that our students have been doing, especially the sixth graders writing thank you letters to the health care workers at Kaiser. It meant a lot to those workers. Our eighth graders are working on a special project which will be revealed in a few weeks.
Talking about our eighth graders, their upcoming graduation will be taking on the “New Normal” for which the staff have been preparing. I am excited about the plans that have begun, and we will be making it a memorable occasional. We have placed the recognition of the graduates with a slide show on the distance learning hub as a start.
Our teachers are doing a phenomenal job working with the students and keeping them on track with their studies. I have been busy attending meetings with other principals and with the superintendent’s office in working out what the next school year will look like. It certainly will be a different start to the school year, but one that we can make happen by working together.
I wish to acknowledge you as the parents for all the work you are doing with your families as well. I have been in touch with various families, listening to their stories, and offering assistance where I am able to. My prayer is that we can all get through these next weeks and look forward to the future. I think of Jesus's experience when he was led to the Garden of Gethsemane before being taken away to be crucified, thinking of what was going through His mind but remembering that through Faith He overcame adversity.
I am excited that next Wednesday evening that we will be able to celebrate the Basketball Awards of our students via Zoom. The ceremony will be on Wednesday, May 6th at 7 pm. We will release the Zoom link on Tuesday. Thanks to the Athletic Board for making this happen, and thank you to the coaches.
I wish you all wellness as we continue on with life, and I ask for God’s blessings for all.
God Bless,
Vincent Riener

“When You’re Smiling” - Songwriters: Joe Goodwin / Larry Shay / Mark Fisher
“When you're smiling
When you're smiling
The whole world smiles with you
When you're laughing
When you're laughing
The sun comes shining through
But when you're crying
You bring on the rain
So stop your sighing be happy again
Keep on smiling
'Cause when you're smiling
The whole world smiles with you”
This was one of my father’s favorite songs, and he used to sing it to me when I was little - this and “You Are My Sunshine” and a few others. I think my love of music started then. The song popped into my head today and made me smile, so I thought I’d share it with you. I hope, in the midst of these challenging times you can keep on smiling and laughing. The sun will come shining through again.
All the best,
Miss J

BOX TOPS
Box Tops for Education was started by General Mills in California back in 1996, after the company decided they wanted to create a program to help support education and benefit America’s schools. All Souls has benefitted from this program over the years, receiving sports equipment, microscopes, and a variety of other educational items.
You can help by clipping the Box Tops off approved products you already have in your pantry. You don't need to clip the actual product UPC — just the Box Tops logo will do. From frozen foods to produce and household cleaning products, there are literally hundreds of opportunities to help, and each Box Top is worth 10 cents. Doesn't sound like a lot, but it adds up fast.
There are so many participating companies! Participating companies and product lines include General Mills, Green Giant, Totino's, Pillsbury, Old El Paso, Ziploc, Hefty, Juicy Juice, Betty Crocker and many more. For a full list of eligible items check the Box Tops for Education website at https://www.boxtops4education.com/earn .
Please see the flyer below for more details about new additions to the Box Tops program.
