We made it through our Covid stretch at the beginning but are now smack dab in the middle of respiratory/RSV/flu season. If your child requires medication (Tylenol/ibuprofen) for a fever they are not allowed in school until they are fever free with no medication for 24 hours. Calling out sick is an excused absence.

Please call (508) 223-1563 or email Janice Johnston jjohnston@attleboroschools.com if your student is going to be out sick or due to vacation so we are able to mark that and save you from the automation :-) Please remember that if you are a community peer, 6 unexcused tardies and absences will result in a letter home and 20 could result in the removal from the program. Letters have already been going home to those who meet the criteria.

Research has shown that preK attendees had stronger literacy skills once they reached the first grade ( Haslip, 2018).

Miss Alex: Hello! I am Miss Alex and I have been at the ELC going on 6 years! I was a paraprofessional for the past 5 school years in the sub-separate preschool classroom while I completed my Master's degree at Bridgewater State in Special Education. And I am fortunate enough to now be the teacher in this classroom! I love watching my students learn and grow throughout the school year and I greatly enjoy learning from each of them too! In my spare time I enjoy everything season related; I love the beach, all fall activities!, football and hockey season, Christmas movie classics, and so much more! Coffee and chocolate gets me through everything!!

Miss Sophie: This is my first year as a paraprofessional but I've been working in the ELC since February 2021 as a substitute for all preschool classrooms. I love my job and all of the students I work with! When I'm not at school, I enjoy reading, cooking, and taking my dog on hikes!

Miss Nancy: I am the new ABA therapist in class 101. I have 20 plus years experience working with children and adults with disabilities. I have worked for private schools, public schools, in homes and centers providing ABA. I have a BA in Special Education and Behavioral Science from Rhode Island college. I really enjoy working with our population and look forward to getting to know our children and providing therapy.

Ms. Deb: Hi! My name is Debra but most people call me Deb. I am the mother to five beautiful adult children and the grandmother to a beautiful baby girl. I worked in childcare for a few years before deciding to be a stay at home parent. For the past 10 years I was working in childcare at a private school. This is my first time as a paraprofessional and I am looking forward to working with the staff and children.

It is that time of year where it can be 38 degrees in the morning then gets up to the high 60's in the afternoon. Our recess times are throughout the day so please make sure you bring layers for your child. Our playground is in the shade for part of the day so it is not as warm as one thinks. Coats are needed at this point. Staff will make sure that the coats go home every day.

We recently learned that if you pressed no to notifications when you first downloaded the APS application that you will not receive our notifications. Apptegy recommends that you delete the app, redownload it and make sure that notifications are allowed the first time you are prompted.

As always every Thursday is Panda Pride day! Wear your Thacher/ELC gear, Attleboro gear, or blue!

Project Connect has a posting for a Parent Educator. The posting ill be available from 11/4-11/18. This is a 19 hour/week position. This position can be ideal for someone with children in school as it follows the school calendar. Parent Educator

Qualifications:

1. Minimum of Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related field preferred
2. Experience working with young children and families of various economic, cultural and educational backgrounds
3. Ability to work independently; schedule flexibility required; own transportation necessary

Reports to: Project Connect CFCE Coordinator

Job Goal: To provide education and support to parents of young children, promote school readiness, strengthens the school/family connection and foster a sense of community.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Implement monthly home visits to all interested Attleboro families with children birth-5. Home visits to higher needs families, bi-weekly
2. Facilitate parent/child playgroups and activities that are developmentally appropriate at the center and in the community
3. Provide parenting workshops and education that focus on a variety of topics including early literacy, positive discipline, nutrition, etc.
4. Participate in outreach activities to promote the program and recruit new families.
5. Administer ASQ, ASQ-SE screenings, help parents understand their child's development
6. Make referrals and connect parents to available resources in the community
7. Provide transition supports among the early childhood mixed delivery system including the Attleboro Public Schools
8. Participate in professional development to promote personal and professional growth
9. Accept all other reasonable responsibilities
