Tiger Tracks
September 1, 2023
Welcome to the First Tiger Tracks of the School Year
We are off to a great start! Classroom routines are being established and it's such a great feeling to see our students actively learning, smiling in the halls, and playing with their friends at recess.
Just a reminder that there is no school on Monday, September 4th (Labor Day). School will resume on Tuesday at the normal start time of 8:15 a.m.
I hope most of you were able to attend our open house. Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have questions.
A few reminders:
- Parking Lot - We are sticking to the plan of designated areas and it seems to be helping our traffic woes in years past. Please remember to use the crosswalk, place your name card on your dash, and to not speed in the parking lot.
- Indoor Line Up - When you are dropping off your child when we have indoor line-up in the front of the building, you need to be in the loading zone and let your children out to enter the front door. We are seeing that the first two cars in the lane are not unloading or the first two spots are not for unloading only as it stops the flow of traffic out to Dowling.
- Hats in the Building - Hats for students and adults are not allowed in the building. If someone enters the building wearing a hat or a hoodie on their head, we cannot identify them nor could our cameras. This is a matter of building wide safety and security. Please remove your hats when entering our school.
- Eating utensils - If you are packing a lunch from home, please send in eating utensils and napkins. The cutlery we have in the building is for those students eating hot lunch only. Thank you for your cooperation.
Next week will be a busy week with MAP testing and mClass testing. To help your child be successful, please help them get a good night's sleep, eat breakfast, and be on time. Testing will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. daily.
Upcoming Dates:
9/4 - Labor Day - No School
9/5-9/8 - MAP and mClass testing for the week
9/5 - PTA meeting @ 3:15 pm in the library
9/7 - ABC Board meeting @3:15 pm in the library
9/12 - Jog-A-Thon
9/14 - School Picture Day
Please see the information below from our PTA regarding our Jog-A-Thon.
PLC Mondays - As you know we will be having PLC Mondays with our late start for the remainder of the year. I'd like to take this opportunity to let you know what we are doing in that one hour of time. Our staff is dedicated to delivering the best education to your child. Together, we are setting school-wide goals, analyzing our data, and planning on structuring our instruction to see where each grade level needs to strengthen the delivery of lessons. Together we are discussing strategies to best support our teaching practices and being allowed the time to look at each student's assessments to guide our instruction. It is proving to be successful.
Have a wonderful three-day weekend! Looking forward to seeing our students on Tuesday.

Hello, NLABC! I am happy to be back at school with you after a rainy summer. I am Mrs. Naomi Keil, the Migrant Education Student Success Coach for NLABC, Tudor, Airport Heights and Willow Crest.

My office is across from Nurse Northcutt.
Sleeping Success?
One of the ways you can support your student this year is by helping them establish a good sleep routine. A good night’s rest leads to better memory, focus, and social-emotional regulation. In fact, research has shown that having good sleep hygiene (getting enough sleep with minimal disruption) predicted higher GPA’s at the end of a term in college-age students (Lowry, Megan & Dean, Kayla & Manders, Keith., 2010).

September is Attendance Awareness Month
Did You Know…
Poor attendance can influence whether children read proficiently by the end of third grade or be held back.
By 6th grade, chronic absence becomes a leading indicator that a student will drop out of high school.
Research shows that missing 10 percent of the school, or about 18 days in most school districts, negatively affects a student’s academic performance. That’s just two days a month and that’s known as chronic absence!
