COVID Update
Here's a COVID update from last week:
- This week we had five positive cases.
- Most positive cases came in from over the weekend.
- Cases are slowing down overall.
- Mondays tend to be our biggest contact tracing days.
- Communication has been streamlined to respect parent requests about the volume of COVID messages from the school.
- If you have questions about the number of cases or concerns about contact tracing, please reach out to our COVID coordinator, Dr. Stacy Mehlberg, at smehlberg@lwsd.org or our school nurse, Karen Walker, at karwalker@lwsd.org.
Friendly Reminder: School Start Time
Students, Plan Ahead! ASB Cash Register Hours
The cash register is opened in the morning until the 1st bell rings for class. It is also open during students’ lunches. The cash register will close immediately after C lunch and will not be opened after school.
Have You Voted Yet?
Lake Washington School District has three measures on the February 8 ballot to support excellence for every student.
You should have received your ballot in the mail. After filling it out, you can put it back in the mail – no stamp needed – or drop it off in a King County Election drop box. Ballots must be dropped off or postmarked by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8.
Want to learn more about Propositions 1-3 and how they support our students through continued funding for staff, programs, technology, as well as helping us ensure all students have room to learn in safe and healthy school buildings? Visit https://www.lwsd.org/education-levies.
Did you know that the state school tax for education is decreasing? The King County Assessor confirmed that the state schools tax rate for property owners in King County is being reduced by approximately 25-27 cents per 1,000 of assessed valuation. The state school funds go to the state and are used for education funding for all districts across Washington state. Our local LWSD tax rate collects funding that stays in our school district.

Simple Steps Make a Big Difference by the Finn Hill Green Team
Solid waste which is commonly known as trash is bad for the environment. Frequently, items put into the trash could be recycled or composted instead. For example, empty plastic bottles and soda cans are not trash, they can be recycled. At lunch, lunch trays and plates are compostable, the milk boxes and bottom of juice containers are recyclable. The food that is leftover on your lunch tray is compostable except for meat and acidic foods like oranges.
If you are not sure if something is recyclable, compostable or trash, ask an adult nearby or look at the sign on the yellow compost bin in the courtyard or cafeteria. To take better care of our planet, you can start by taking a small and simple step of composting and recycling.
