Sheldon Screening of "I'm Not a Racist ... Am I?"
The Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Instruction will be hosting a screening of the film I’m Not Racist…Am I? at Sheldon High School.
This film follows a diverse group of 12 students over the course of one school year who come together for a yearlong exploration of race and racism as part of the Calhoun School’s national Deconstructing Race initiative. This film is sure to bring up a wide range of emotions and may jump-start some difficult conversations at home and in the classroom for students. While we hope that most of the discussions regarding this film take place between students and their families, we understand that topics at home often make their way to school.

Colleges and scholarship programs use these honors to identify students from underrepresented groups through College Board’s Student Search Service.

Students who may be eligible have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have excelled on the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10, or earned a score of 3 or higher on two or more AP Exams; and are African American or Black, Hispanic American or Latinx, Indigenous, and/or attend school in a rural area or small town. Volunteer Interest
In today’s schools, there are simply far more jobs and responsibilities than there are people to do them. By helping with special events and routine tasks, volunteers allow teachers and staff to focus more on helping children learn and grow. The school can accomplish more, and offer children and families more services, with the help of volunteers. Every 4J school welcomes and appreciates volunteers. Many volunteers work a few hours per week; others help intermittently. Opportunities include Library assistance, Field Trips, Career Center assistance, stuffing envelopes, helping at school events like registration and dances, campus supervision, and more!
To get started, you must first visit each of these links below, following all the steps and filling out the appropriate forms. We can then get you ready to help!!

Get to School Safely!
We encourage students to get to school using active transportation like walking, biking, skating and scooting, or shared transportation like busing and carpooling. It’s great for their health and the environment and makes the space around our school safer and less trafficked.
Please take a look at the safety tip sheets for walking and biking on our regional Safe Routes to School website, and go over some of the safety tips with your student: https://www.eugenespringfieldsrts.org/local-resources
Finally, when choosing a walking or biking route, try a route other than the one you would use to drive to school. Sidewalk riding on busy streets is dangerous because people driving don’t expect people biking on sidewalks. Quieter neighborhood streets may be a better option. Safe Routes to School has walking maps on their website, here: https://www.eugenespringfieldsrts.org/maps-for-biking-and-walking You can also connect with our Safe Routes to School staff for route planning assistance at mazze_s@4j.lane.edu or 541-790-7539.

Host an Italian student, enjoy a true cultural exchange. Your child will be invited to Italy!
Join the Ergon cross cultural exchange program! As a family you will have the enriching and fun experience of hosting a 16-17-year-old Italian student for the 2023-24 school year, for either half or all the school year.
The Ergon program ensures a unique cross-cultural opportunity: the Italian families offer to your son or daughter a direct exposure to Italian culture through an all-expenses paid vacation in Italy in the summer following the visit, and Ergon sponsors the flight!
We’ve had many 4J host families who shared their homes with an Italian student; many of those visits have turned into long-term friendships for themselves and their children.
Our current and former host parents are happy to share their experiences with you. Ergon specializes in a rigorous selection process and carefully match students with host families. Students are fully insured and arrive with pocket money for all expenses.
Thank you!
