Counseling Services
Warriors: The past several weeks have been difficult for the Riverside High School Community. School counselors are available to meet in person or virtually with their students and parents to help navigate this time. The counseling department would also like to offer these resources to support our students and families; past and present.
Some Students to Return to Full-Time In-Person Instruction
Warriors: Greenville County Schools announced its initiative Wednesday to return certain grade levels and students to full-time in-person instruction. Amongst certain elementary students, high school students that are in self-contained classes and Level 2 On-Site Career Center Students will be "phased back in" to full-time in-person instruction. eLearning and Virtual School Reminders
Information From the Counseling Department
- SAT – For those seniors who signed up for the make-up SAT - Wed. 9/23/20 (Green/Blue students) or Tues. 10/27/20 (Red/Purple students). Students were notified and reminded to sign up again if they were still interested. Wednesday, September 23rd is for Green/Blue students, and Tuesday, October 27th will be for the Red/Purple students
- PSAT: The PSAT will be administered on Wednesday, October 14th and on Thursday, October 29th. This is to accommodate the two color groups. Contact Cathy Derrick

- School Counseling Website: All grades – Please see the new School Counseling website for information for all students at every grade level: https://sites.google.com/greenvilleschools.us/rhsschoolcounseling/home. Please contact your school counselor any time you have questions or concerns.
- Virtual Senior Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) meetings: will be starting in October. Students will use Schoolinks to record their IGP information; students should complete the initial career interest onboarding questions before the IGP Meeting. Please look for an email from your counselor 10/5 – 10/9 on how to sign up for a meeting time. We plan to use Calendly to allow families to schedule virtual IGP meetings at a time that works for their schedules.
Financial Aid Workshops
Parents are invited to attend one of four virtual financial aid workshops sponsored by Greenville County Schools. All workshops are open to the public. Hear from school counselors and college financial aid officers regarding the most current financial aid information. All types of financial aid, including scholarships, grants, and loans will be discussed. Please click the link for more information.

"Senior Night for all Fall Sports will be at the football game on October 9th (vs Wade Hampton). Seniors of Fall sports will be getting information soon from their coach."
Student Announcements:
Anyone who would like to become a member of Beta Club needs to fill out the google form application on the RHS website no later than October 9. It is only open to 10, 11, and 12 graders and you must have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher. See Ms. Becker with any questions.
NAHS Members - Orders are now being taken for NAHS Tees (both short- and long-sleeved!) and Hoodies.

RHS Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) will have our 1st Big Group meeting of the 2020-2021 school year on Friday, October 2, 2020. We will meet on the practice field at 6:00 PM and ask everyone to please bring a blanket or chair and a mask. We will need to socially distance and wear masks throughout the meeting. We will finish up around 6:30 PM so everyone who plans to attend the football game at Byrnes has time to get their for kickoff. Look forward to seeing you next Friday!
RHS Key Club is a service organization. Members perform acts of service in their communities, such as cleaning up parks, collecting clothing, organizing food drives, and serving others. They also learn leadership skills by running meetings, planning projects and holding elected leadership positions. Each member must complete 10 service hours each semester. There is a $15 membership fee, to be paid through My School Bucks. We are taking applications for membership now through October 13, 2020. The Application Form is linked to our Key Club Google Classroom. Ms. Smith (Rm 120) and Ms. Nickles (K123) are co-sponsors. Ms. Nickles (K123) and Ms. Smith (K120) can give you the links to the classroom and remind. Please see them if you have any questions. You may also send questions through the Key Club Classroom. Our first Key Club 2020-2021 meeting is scheduled for October 16, 2020, at 10:30am through Google Meet.
Food and Nutrition information:
Due to a recent USDA waiver that allows free meals for all students through December, students that bring their own lunch from home can supplement their lunch with free healthy options. To qualify Students must select three of the five offered components. Pick 3 - Fresh fruits, vegetables (fries), milk and a roll free of charge. You must select 3 items to avoid being charged ala carte prices.
Breakfast and Lunch is free to all students until December 31 or until funds run out.
Take meals home for e-learning days are being offered to all students. You can pre order or come to the cafeteria when school is dismissed to claim your meals. The meals are free and include breakfast and lunch.

Creating a Backpack Account for Parents
Please take the time to create a backpack account for parents. A backpack for parents account provides parents, guardians, or contacts with a central place to sign in to do the following:
- View their student's information including demographics, attendance, classes, grades, lunch balances, and test scores
- Apply or register their student to Special Focus schools and programs (Fine Arts Center, Career Centers, etc.)
- Receive alerts and notifications regarding their students
- View their student's school and contact information
- Manage parent and contact information for their students
To create your parent backpack account follow the attached directions. Please note that parents only need to create a backpack account once. This is not an annual process.
