St Joseph's School Newsletter
19th October - Week 1 - Term 4 2022
Principal's Message
Kia ora, Hi, Kia orana, Kumusta, Ciao, Hallo, Dia duit, Halo, Namaste, Bonjour,
Welcome to term 4
It was lovely as a school to pray the rosary together to start the term. We ask God to support us with love and wisdom as we begin the final term of the school year.
We have many exciting events this term and look forward to enjoying those with the community.
If you have any family or friends interested in joining our school, we encourage you to speak to them and invite them to come and have a look and meet the team and me.
Toward the end of the term, we have planned for the year 5 - 8 students to go on camp (Monday 12th and Tuesday 13th December. A notice will come home on Friday in regards to parent help. We will then confirm the overnight stay if we have the correct amount of assistance.
Shade sale. Unfortunately, the shade sale outside the junior room was broken during the winter storms. It either needs stitching down one side or replacing. Please get in touch with the office if anyone can assist with this or has a contact.
We are encouraging the students to be proud of their achievements and to be the best they can be. A good question at the end of the day is, "What are you proud of today?" and "What could you have done better or differently?" This will engage more conversation than: "What did you do at school today?" Generally, as a parent, you get the answer, "nothing!" It also helps your child to think about what they did well, building their self-efficacy. Asking what they could have improved on will assist in developing self awareness of our impact on others.

HATS
Hats are compulsory for outdoor play. Please ensure your child has a named hat. This policy will be enforced.
Next week is Melanoma week so a great reminder to us about being sunsmart.
Breakfast Club
We are very excited to now be part of "KickStart Breakfast."
KickStart Breakfast is a joint initiative between Fonterra, Sanitarium and the Ministry of Social Development.
The programme is designed to positively impact child well-being through providing access to nutritious food at school. It's helping give our tamariki a boost to both their school day and their future by ensuring they have a healthy start along with a full puku to keep them alert in the classroom.
PARENT HELP REQUIRED: We would like to run the breakfast two mornings a week and would need a parent to assist with overseeing and assist the student leaders. Even if you can commit to once a month or once a term, many hands make light work. Please let the office know if you are able to assist. Help would be required from 8:10 until 8:40.
CATHOLIC CORNER
During the month of October the Catholic Church honours Mary by praying the rosary. As a school our prayer focus will also be praying the rosary. Maybe at home you could also say a Hail Mary together or pray a decade in the evening (10 Hail Marys).
In RE classes over the next few weeks the focus is our holy BIble - exploring Scripture and sharing stories from the Old and New Testament. Bible stories shared at bedtime are a great way for children to become more familiar with Jesus’ teachings and grow their faith….as well as improving their reading skills!
This Friday our school will be attending the parish mass, 9am. Please join us if you can. This Sunday is Mission Sunday - October is also known as Mission Month.
Our school value this term is Honesty. This week’s message shares how important it is to tell the truth.

Group Day - East School
A reminder to the children who have entered their animals in the Group Day at East school. This is on Thursday 27th October. Good luck and have a great day!
Agricultural Day - Calf Club
Our school will have our annual calf club day on Friday 4th November. Children bring animals (calf, lambs, kid goat) they have raised and trained. I hope the children are spending lots of time with their animals. The more time spent with them and leading them means they "may" preform well for you on the day.
Library update - Term 4
Congratulations to everyone who participated in creating our SPINOPILLAR. We now all know what the spine of a book is and what information it has on it.
Thank you to everyone in the school - both students and teachers/support staff - for adding your thoughts to our combined Why Do I Like Reading question. This made great reading and is still on the library wall if you are interested in finding some answers to the question.
Finally Congratulations to all students in Room 1 Rimu for having NO overdue books!! Well done. Hope you are all enjoying your new library books this week.
Thank you for your continued support of our library.
The more you read the more you know!
God bless
