Tips to Prepare You Kids for Back to School
1. Practice the morning routine. (Setting out clothes, packing back packs, and setting an alarm to wake up on time.)
2. Check out the school website. (Encourage your child to look at the website and get familiar with teachers, expectations, and other information.)
3. Encourage good communication. (When your child wants to talk, make sure to put away your phone. Also use car time to share information. Many children are more comfortable talking when the parent isn't "staring at them".)
4. Help children who struggle with anxiety to develop a plan. (Such as teaching them to "breath a square". Imaging a square with 4 sides and you breath in 2 sides and breath out on 2 sides. Each side the child breaths slower and slower.)
5. Don't forget that sleep and diet make a difference. Again encourage a routine that includes a regular bed time and eating regularly. (Eating before school and healthy snacks encourages them to have energy to make the most of their learning time)
