News from Westfield Elementary School: August 18, 2023
Westfield Principal Kristen Ulery
Westfield families:
I hope you are as excited about the start of school as I am! It was great to see some students and families out on the playground this week, and I am looking forward to starting the school year on Wednesday!
The first day of school is Wednesday, August 23, 2023.
- Kindergarten through fifth grade: 8:50 a.m. - 3:35 p.m.
Below you will find some more information about the start of school.
School personnel will also be available outside the school on opening day to assist students and answer questions.
The school supply list can be found below. Supplies can be brought to supply drop-off on Tuesday, August 22 from 8:00-8:30 a.m. or brought by the student on the first day of school.
The teachers and many parent volunteers have worked hard this week to unpack after the construction, and it is exciting to see the building ready for students! Construction crews will still be completing some of the exterior work next week, but inside we are all set to welcome students.
Enjoy the last weekend of summer, and I look forward to seeing everyone next week!

Meet the teacher & supply drop-off on August 22
Meet-the-teacher and supply drop-off for kindergarten through fifth-grade students will be from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 22. Stop by Westfield with your school supplies to lighten your load on the first day of school and meet your teacher.
We will be concluding the meet and greet promptly at 8:30 a.m. so staff can get back to their professional development.
Our nurse will have a table to drop off the following items:
- Kindergarten: medical, eye, dental forms
- Second grade: dental forms
- Any emergency care plans (allergies)
Teacher assignments, class schedules are now available
Arrival procedures
Students in kindergarten through fifth grade should not arrive at school before 8:30 a.m. When the 8:40 a.m. bell rings, students will enter the school.
- Kindergarten & first grade will line up outside their classrooms as shown on the map below
- Grades 2 & 3 will enter the main doors by the office
- Grades 4 & 5 will line up outside door 17
Staff members will be outside on the first day to help students find their lines.
Students must be in their seats ready to start when the 8:50 a.m. bell rings or they will be marked tardy. Students arriving after 8:50 a.m. must be signed in at the office by an adult.
Dismissal procedures
At 3:35 p.m. walkers will be dismissed through the same doors they entered at arrival:
- Kindergarten & first grade will dismiss from their classrooms' exterior doors
- Grades 2 & 3 will exit the main doors by the office
- Grades 4 & 5 will exit through door 17
Walking is the most efficient way to pick up your kids. Parents who are walking up to get their children should meet them at their exit doors. If you are driving to pick up and wish to avoid waiting in the car line, please park legally on one of the side streets and walk up to get your child. Watch for traffic and avoid crossing between cars in the car line.
K-2 students must be met by an adult or older child. If you have a child in the intermediate grades who will be walking home alone or meeting you off of the property, please make sure your child's teacher knows these plans.
Students being picked up by car will be dismissed through the main doors by the office.
A few reminders for the car line:
- Please be patient in the car line and pull all the way forward to make room for cars behind you.
- Remain in your car, and your child will come out to you.
- Children should only enter the car from the sidewalk side.
- Please drive carefully and watch for people crossing the street.
- Follow the directions of the crossing guard.
- Be courteous to our neighbors and don't block their driveways while waiting for pickup.
Students who take the bus will line up inside and be walked to their buses by a staff member. Please be patient with buses the first week. Pickup and drop-off times might be a little earlier or later as everyone learns new routes.
