A Note from Mrs. Williams
Hello Schluter Families!
This week has been wonderful with some cooler weather! As I’ve been in classrooms this week, I am so impressed with the learning and growth our students are making at this point in the year. Our teachers are going above and beyond every day to make meaningful learning experiences for our students, and it shows! Be sure to ask your kiddo about what they are learning each day. Our grade level newsletters sent out by your child’s teacher each week has great information that could be a conversation starter about their day.
As a reminder, next week is Red Ribbon Week! Check out the flyer below to see a refresher of the dress-up days. Don’t forget that the NISD dress code still applies.
Also, Monday is the final day for our Big Kahuna Fundraiser! Thank you so much to all who have purchased items to support Schluter! We hope to see you at our 2 evening events next week, Trick-or-Reading on Tuesday and our PTA Movie Night next Friday.
Enjoy the weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Williams
Veteran's Day
To celebrate Veteran’s Day, our students will be putting together a video tribute to honor our Veterans and will be making a Veteran Honor wall. Here are a few ways Veterans and their families can participate:
- Veterans can send in a short video (20-30 seconds) introducing themselves and sharing a little about their experience or what Veteran’s Day means to them. Feel free to include your name, rank, branch of service and any other bit of information you would like to include. Videos be should be emailed to lmorris01@nisdtx.org by October 29th.
- Veterans and/or their families can send in a photo to be displayed on the Veteran Honor wall. Please use the attached Veteran Photo Form. Print the form, attach a copy of your Veteran photo to the form, fill out the information, have your student decorate the rest of the form and bring it back by November 4th or sooner.
If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Morris.
Thank you!
Spelling Bee - 3rd-5th Students
This year’s spelling bee will be done using Scripps National Spelling Bee. The classroom bee
will be an oral test this year held in the classroom the week of October 17th. The top two
winners from each class will go on to compete in the campus bee on December 9th. They will
receive their study guide for the campus bee after the classroom bee is complete. There will not be a study guide for the classroom bee.
The Area Bee will be held on February 10th.
If you have any questions, please contact your campus coordinators.

Help name Northwest ISD’s next elementary schools
What should Northwest ISD’s next five elementary schools be named? Let us know by submitting your nomination! The district is currently accepting nominations, including for the next school, which is slated to open in 2024 in the Wildflower Ranch community.
Submissions must meet the district’s criteria, and the proposed namesake for any nomination must no longer be living for consideration. Submit your nomination using this online form.
Facebook Live on October 26 discusses start of year, massive growth
The video chat will begin with a district update about news in Northwest ISD before taking audience questions. Northwest ISD’s Facebook Live video chats typically last about 30 minutes. For questions that are not answered during the video chat, the district provides written responses within the week.
To participate in the video chat, visit the Northwest ISD Facebook page on the social network’s website or mobile app.
Alphabest Afterschool Care
Reminder: Use MyShoolBucks for school meal accounts
Free or reduced-priced meals now require 2022-2023 application
For students who meet federal requirements, school meals may be provided free or at a reduced cost. To receive this benefit, a student's parent or guardian must fill out the free or reduced-cost meal application and be granted admission into the program. While students in the program receive the same benefits briefly at the start of the following school year, the application must be completed annually to continue receiving the program's benefits. For any student who received benefits from the free or reduced-priced meal program in 2021-2022 but has not yet applied and been granted its benefits for the current school year, regular costs are now in effect.
In order for benefits to continue, an application must be completed and returned and free or reduced-price meals will continue to be provided, if the student qualifies. The application can be completed at this link. Paper applications are also available at all Northwest ISD campuses. Please direct any questions to Yen Brown, free and reduced specialist, at 817-698-1091.
Registration now open for annual NISD Reindeer Romp
The event consists of two races, a 5K and 1-mile fun run. The latter race begins at 8:30 a.m., while the longer race begins at 9 a.m. Registration costs $20 per student and $25 per adult. Registrants can take part in either race or both races, if desired.
To register for the Reindeer Romp or learn more about the event, visit www.nisdreindeerromp.com.
Background checks delayed following court backlogs
Please be aware that because of backlogs with court systems, background checks for volunteering are taking additional time to process. While background checks are typically expected to take about three days, the delays are causing them to take up to three weeks.
Northwest ISD partners with a respected service to gather these reports, though our partner can only operate as quickly as the court system. Please keep this in mind when volunteering, and we encourage anyone who plans to volunteer this year to submit a background check immediately instead of waiting.
