Blaine High School CEMS Program
Attention 8th Grade Parents: It's hard to believe but it's time to start thinking about high school!
Are you interested in learning more about the Center for Engineering, Mathematics, and Science (CEMS) at Blaine High School? The CEMS program is a Magnet program within Blaine High School for students who want an integrated and rigorous, in-depth mathematics, science and engineering program. Students will increase academic skills as well as critical thinking, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
Sign up for a tour on Monday, November 13th 2023. Various tour spots available starting at 5:30pm.

Ski Club - Ski with your friends on a variety of ski hills on 5 scheduled Friday nights in December - February. Roosevelt has gotten a third bus and we have about 20 spots left. Sign up today before space runs out! Use the link below.
Basketball - Basketball season is here! Roosevelt is in a competitive league where Roosevelt will play the other middle schools in the district over the course of the season. 7th and 8th grade boys will start in November, 7th and 8th grade girls in January, and 6th graders (both boys and girls) will start in February. Sign up using the link below to save your spot!
Dance Team -In this competitive dance team league, dancers will learn the skills of dance with an emphasis on participation, teamwork and safety. Based on registration numbers, A and B level teams will be formed based on each dancer’s skill level. Dancers practice after school and compete against other Anoka-Hennepin middle schools. Activity bus available. Sign up today!
Performance Cheer -Performance cheer is an athletic event that involves cheering, stunting, tumbling and dancing. The performance cheer squad will participate in an Anoka-Hennepin Schools middle school show at the completion of the season. The district cheer show is Thursday, February 15th at Coon Rapids Middle School at 6 p.m.
Holiday Cookie Wars -Have you ever wanted to decorate your sugar cookies to make them special? In this class we will be using buttercream and other decorations to create exciting holiday designs. The cookies will be evaluated by a celebrity judge who knows his cookies. Sign up with the link below.
Terrain and Diorama for Role Playing -Engage your art skills to build impressive terrain pieces for tabletop roleplaying games or diorama displays. Students will use foam board, glue, paint, weathering, and other art-related skills to create take-home pieces for use in their tabletop roleplay games or display pieces. Beginner friendly, and can be focused on individual or group projects.
Nordic Ski Team - Join a great group of athletes and coaches this winter! Whether you are an accomplished skier or a newcomer to the sport, we'd love to have you ski with us. Your season will begin with dry-land training in preparation for the arrival of snow. Once snowflakes fall, and they will, you'll learn to ski as well as compete in meets against other athletes your age. We practice alongside the Blaine HS Nordic Ski Team.
Procedural Expectations for Picking Up Your Student Early
If you will be picking up your student(s) early please follow this procedure:
- Calling and leaving a message on the attendance line; 763-506-5806
- Enter the pick-up time and reason in ParentVue
- Have your student bring a note to the attendance office in the morning
- The cut-off time to pick up your student is 2:30 p.m.
- Parking in front of the school to pick up your student ends at 2:30 p.m.
- If we are not notified prior, it will take longer to get your student out of lunch or class
Following this procedure helps the office prepare for your arrival and helps you get to your destination on time.

The Blaine Swim & Dive Program invites you to join our team!
The Blaine Bengals Swimming and Diving Team is a high school activity of Blaine High School, open to grades 7-12. Our team is offered as an activity to both girls and boys.
The Boys Team is a Winter Sport and Registration opens in Mid November with the first day of practice on 11/28/22 .
Our swimming and diving coaching staff is a professional, highly motivated and enthusiastic group focused on individual and team improvement both in the water and out. The goal of our team is to provide every member with an opportunity to improve their swimming or diving skills, experience what it means to be a part of a team, and achieve individual success through hard work, dedication, and FUN!
Before Joining Blaine Boys Swim & Dive the athlete will be able to:
Emphasis is put on learning the four basic strokes, starts and turns.
Demonstration of coachability
Ability to swim 1 length (5 yards) without stopping
Ability to hold breath for 30-60 seconds
Curriculum Open House Provides Parent Input Opportunity
Anoka-Hennepin School District families, students, staff, and community members are invited to review and provide feedback on eight new curriculum options in the areas of secondary science, math, and social studies. The district will offer both in-person and virtual open house opportunities in November.
Open house information:
In-person: 5:30-7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16 at the Educational Service Center, 2727 N Ferry St., Anoka.
Virtual: Nov. 15-29. Participants will be provided links and videos to review online. Interested participants must register online by Monday, Nov. 13. Complete this form to register for the virtual review option.

As the district reviews and adopts new materials in courses, it involves students, parents, and the community as part of a comprehensive 41-step process. Current math, language arts, science, social studies, and health materials were all adopted after community engagement and public review of the materials, and future purchases will also be reviewed publicly before official adoption.
Providing Choice, Empowering Minds:
Four specialty and magnet schools at the high school level
Anoka-Hennepin offers four specialty and magnet schools at the high school level that are designed to provide families with additional choices at no cost. Students in kindergarten - grade 12 who live within the Anoka-Hennepin boundaries may apply to enroll at any of the specialty or magnet schools as an opportunity to explore interest areas in depth.
The specialty and magnet programs provide in-demand educational options such as the arts, science, technology, math, engineering and biomedical sciences (STEM/STEAM), as well as International Baccalaureate (IB).
Magnet schools
Offered to students districtwide in partnership with the Northwest Suburban Integration School District (NWSISD).
Transportation is provided.
The application window is open for the 2024-25 school year and closes Dec. 31, 2023.
Specialty schools
Students may enroll at the specialty schools using an in-district transfer process.
Families are responsible for providing transportation.
Applications are accepted between Dec. 1, 2023 and Jan. 15, 2024 for priority consideration.

Special Education Advisory Council Resource Information Night set for Nov. 16
The Anoka-Hennepin Schools Special Education Advisory Council (SEAC) is hosting a resource information night on Thursday, Nov. 16 for families of students with special needs. A total of seven different vendors will be in attendance to share information with families about community resources.
Event information:
Thursday, Nov. 16 from 6-7:30 p.m.
Educational Service Center, 2727 N Ferry St., Anoka.

Families will be able to speak with various vendors at stations which will be set up in the room.
Vendors will cover activities, dental care, sports, and community groups for students with special needs.
The intent of the SEAC is to provide tools and resources to help guardians of children receiving special education services and collaborate with the district in order to promote continuous growth of special education services to best meet the needs of students. Members serve as a representative of district learners with disabilities from birth through age 22. SEAC strives to promote, educate and share resources between families, schools, and communities.
The council is a partnership between parents/guardians and the school district and meets four times (three in person and one virtual) during the school year.
Parent Education Series:
District to host three Parent Engage 360 events in 2023-24
Join parents and guardians from the Anoka-Hennepin Schools community for information and resources to support the needs of students today.
The big picture: Anoka-Hennepin is hosting three Parent Engage 360 community and parent education events during the 2023-24 school year. These events aim to provide resources for parents and guardians to support their students and others in the community. Topics range from mental health, chemical health, internet safety, and more. Parent Engage 360 forum events are offered both in-person and in virtual formats and are free and open to the public.
What to expect: The first Parent Engage 360 event will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the Coon Rapids High School auditorium and will feature author and co-founder of TILL360 Joe Beckman. Over the last 20 years, Beckman has spoken all over the world with one mission, to reclaim human connection.
Beckman is an engaging and dynamic speaker who combines humor, authenticity, heart, and soul that will help attendees find self-worth, resilience, confidence, joy, and human connection. Beckman is the author of Just Look Up Five Life-Saving Phrases Every Kid Human Needs to Hear. Attendees at this event have the chance to win one of four free copies of Beckman’s book.

Screen time and sleep deprivation in teens
It is important for both parents/guardians and students to regularly check in with their use of mobile devices, especially in the evenings and at bedtime.
In a blog post from icanhelp.net titled, “Screen Time Linked to Teen Sleep Deprivation,” parents are provided with seven tips to help teenagers avoid sleep deprivation.
Set Screen Time Boundaries.
Establish a Bedtime Routine.
Create a Sleep-Friendly Environment.
Designate a Screen-Free Zone.
Watch Out for Evening Stimulants.
Get Those Extra 30 Minutes.
Remove Electronic Devices.
