General Information

At 6:30 pm, President Snider called the monthly meeting of March to order. The BOE approved the meeting and consent agenda. During board input, a discussion was held about upcoming board training. Dr. Kashner has reached out to the Illinois School Association of School Board (IASB) to schedule potential dates. The BOE came to agreement that the new BOE members will be officially seated at a special meeting on April 26th, 2023. This will satisfy requirements to take place after election results are canvasses (April 25th) and before 40 days after the election.


President Snider welcomed visitors: Tim Kaus, Jeremy and Casey Flikkema, and Colleen, Kellen, Erin and Kaden Henze and asked if they wanted to address the board. Mrs. Henze thanked the board for their time and service, and specially highlighted her husband's 20 plus years of service and how proud she was. Dr. Kashner complimented Member Henze for his service to the district and how they are looking forward to celebrating him and the other board members retiring from service formally at our April meeting.


During communications, Dr. Kashner shared the preK board report. He noted that they do have a posting for a preK teacher and aide and that he has been informed that he has heard they have a great candidate.

Old Business

In Old Business, the BOE approved IHSA/IESA membership renewals, amended the 2023-2024 school calendar, heard a first reading on the 2024-2025 calendar, and approved an intergovernmental agreement with Chadwick-Milledgeville for shared transportation for the 2023-2024 school year.


IHSA and IESA membership is an annual renewal. There is no upfront cost for either agency and will be billed later depending on programs entered. The only change to the 2023-2024 school calendar was to change conferences to 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm on November 2nd. Dr. Kashner shared the first draft of the 2024-2025 calendar. He complimented the committee for its thoughtfulness and discussion on dates. Ultimately, the calendar mirrors the two previous years calendars in most ways. The changes include no school on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024 due to election day. This change will also change the p/t conferences for 2024-2025 to Friday, November 1st and Monday, November 4th respectively. The shared transportation agreement was updated to reflect current gas prices. Dr. Kashner commented that this partnership has worked well for numerous years and he thanked Chadwick-Milledgeville for this continued partnership and flexibility.

New Business

In New Business, the BOE heard a presentation on providing staff child care, approved school facility use, field trip request, and a first reading of the Consolidated District Plan.


Dr. Kashner shared a proposal to provide half day childcare for staff members children who are enrolled in the preschool program. He shared that his rationale is to provide an affordable on-site childcare option. Additionally, he feels that this would provide a benefit to attract and keep young teachers in our district. Currently, three other local districts provide this service. Dr. Kashner shared that it would be a paid program and completely self-funded. The space utilized currently sits empty in the afternoon due to having three preK sections instead of four.


The BOE approved a 5th grade field trip to the Lake Carroll Fish Hatchery and a band trip to Great America. The BOE also approved the use of the gym for high school basketball.
