Flex Time! How to Make the Most of Thursday Flex Time to Get Caught Up, Get Support, or Get Ahead!
Flex Time Intervention sessions provide time for students to receive support every Thursday during the instructional day. The purpose of this time is to allow a struggling student some extra time in a smaller group setting to learn the skills they may be struggling with during class time. There are also opportunities for students to enrich their learning if they are doing well in all of their classes.
Each week, a student may be assigned to a specific skill-based Flex Time session by one of their teachers. Our students’ academic success is important; therefore, it is an expectation that students attend the Flex session they are assigned to by their teacher. If a student is not assigned to a session, they may select a session for academic support, time to complete schoolwork, or to extend their learning in a class.
Flex time is academic time built into the regular school day for students to participate in sessions such as:
● Interventions and tutoring on specific skills
● Extension and enrichment
● Skill assessment and reassessment
● Life skills/college and career readiness
● Open academic sessions
Flex Time can help students achieve academic success in the following ways:
● Increased understanding of the concepts taught in your classes.
● A time to catch up in classes you were absent for.
● Opportunity to participate in extension or enrichment activities to expand learning.
● Grade improvement.
● Improved performance on tests such as AP, SAT, ACT.
● Opportunity to increase your college and career readiness.
● Overall increase in academic achievement.
BCHS Flex Time provides a great opportunity for students to get extra support to increase academic achievement and success, and to help prepare them for the future. Please visit the Boulder Creek High School website for the Flex Bell Schedule.
Parent- Teacher Conferences!
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held in-person for BCHS on Thursday, October 6th from 12pm until 6:30pm (the last scheduled conference is at 6:20pm). This is a wonderful opportunity for parents, students and teachers to come together to review student progress, learning goals, and opportunities for growth. This communication and partnership is critical for supporting student success. To sign up for appointments, links will be live on Monday, October 3rd on the BCHS website at http://bchs.dvusd.org. Please click on the Parent/Teacher Conference link on the front page.

BCHS Professional Learning Communities: Coming together to Support Student Learning
Most Friday's during the school year, students get out just a bit early to allow for our teachers to collaborate and support student learning. The 90 minutes that are dedicated to DVUSD PLC time are crucial to BCHS student learning and success. Teachers meet in level teams to collaborate on designing instruction, assessment, and analyzing student data to determine which supports are needed to help our students learn essential course skills. Teachers use this information to adjust classroom instruction, to design targeted intervention or open student sessions for Flex Time, and to create next steps to rally around students and their learning!
Ed Professions
Ed Professions has hit the ground running, with job shadowing and a guest speaker in the first month. Job shadowing at BCHS was a success. Students learned about confidentiality and professionalism. We got so many compliments from teachers about how the students conducted themselves within the classroom and how nice it was to receive thank you notes afterwards. We continue to get new students signed up for the class who are excited to be there. Our first unit was Myself as a Learner. Next, we move onto the History of Education and the Stages of Development. ~Selena Huggins
