EMS Notes from "The Nest"
Eastwood Middle School Bulletin
From the Principal's Desk
12/18/2023 December Edition
Hello, E.M.S. Community,
I would like to take the time to say thank you for a great first half of the year as we wind down the second Nine-weeks (first semester) of the school year. Your students have done an excellent job this year modeling the Eagle Way and learning to grow together as a building. The student culture in our building has been so positive, and encouraging. There is always room to grow, but we as a staff have truly enjoyed teaching and working with your students this school year.
In looking at the calendar as we count down to the end of the 2023 portion of the school year. Our last day before break is Tuesday December 19. We will be off from December 20 until Tuesday January 2. We will return to school on Wednesday January 3, 2024.The End of the Second Quarter is Thursday January 11.
This is a good time to check in with your child to be sure to get all missing assignments and make-ups completed. Schoology is a big help in looking up this information. A reminder that there is no school on Friday January 12 for teacher work day, and we also have off Monday January 15 for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Then, we start the 3rd quarter and the winter months of the school year. This comes with a tough, grey "winter doldrum" feel. Keep students rested, hydrated and as healthy as possible. We have had a big jump in cold, flu, strep etc... We get it, when kids come in to the office and are carrying a trash can, they really are sick. Students should be 24 hours symptom and or fever free. There seems to be a lot of different viruses flying around. Take care of yourselves.
Finally, we would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Joyous New year. We live in a great community and are proud to serve the families of the Eastwood School District. May 2024 bring you new experiences, strong health, and wonderful memories. Enjoy your Winter Holiday Break.
Thank you for making Eastwood such a great Community.

Important EMS Repeat Reminders.
Medication (It is Cold and Flu Season)
Finals Forms has provided some confusion in regards to medication for our students. If your student will need to take medication at school, be it prescription or over the counter, you will need to pick up a form in the office, complete it and bring it back to the main office. You will also need to provide a bottle of medication in its original container. We do not have medication (Tylenol, Advil, etc) to give to students.
If you have any questions, do not hesitate to call the office and speak to the secretaries.
Free and Reduced Applications
If you believe your family will qualify for free or reduced lunches and fees, please go into Final Forms and print off the 2023-2024 application. Return it to the board office or middle school as soon as possible to allow time for processing. Thank you
Fees - IMPORTANT REMINDER
This is just a friendly reminder about the Board policy regarding participation fees. The Board policy, instituted in 2014, indicates that any outstanding fees must be paid in full, unless you have been consistently making payments on your student's fees, PRIOR to the office being able to accept/apply any payments to the athletic participation fees. Participation fees MUST be paid prior to the first competition (excluding scrimmages). This policy also pertains to participation in band activities. If you wish to go on a payment plan, please contact Mrs. Farmer as soon as possible and set it up.
This is a policy that is set by the board and the secretaries will be adhering to it. If you have a balance, please make arrangements to pay the fees via PaySchoolCentral with a credit card, or in the office with exact cash or a check.
If you would like a copy of the policy, please contact the office, and Mrs. Farmer and or Mrs. Fairbanks will be happy to provide it to you.
Pick Up
In the afternoon, all the buses are parked in the Sugar Ridge Rd. main parking lot. Students being picked up by parents can/should be picked up in the parking lot that is directly next to and overlooking Sugar Ridge Road. Do not proceed toward the front entrance as that area is blocked off. If by chance you park early in the parking lot. No cars may exit the lot until all buses have left with their students for release.
Thank you for your cooperation in assuring both your student, your personal, and our staff's safety.
Remind 101
Just a reminder that the district uses Remind 101 to notify families of closings, delays, and other emergencies. Please assure that you have signed up or have up-to-date information in your account. There are instructions on the school's website under the Parent tab on how to sign up!

EMS Athletics and Activities Notes
Girls 7th and 8th grade Basketball
The 7th grade girls have started the season very strong. They are currently sitting at 5-0 on the year. A tough and scrappy group that is fundamentally very strong.
The 8th grade is 4-2 and showing signs of a promising finish. They are looking for consistency, but will do very well come the end of the season tournament. We look forward to great seasons for both teams.
Boys 7th and 8th grade Basketball
The 7th grade team is 4-0 with a tremendous amount of depth on the team. They have 15 players on the roster, and pose a challenge for every team they play.
The 8th grade team is 2-2 in one of the more competitive group of 8th grade teams that I have seen in a while. Very high skill levels, and exciting finishes have been the norm. We are looking forward to both of their showings down the stretch for the rest of the year.
Wrestling
This years wrestling team is poised to make immense growth this year. They have a good group of numbers and some young wrestlers that are bringing lots of toughness, skill, and enthusiasm to the future of the program. They had a great showing at this year's competitive Conkle Invitational, finishing 4th as a team. The team then beat Woodmore and Rossford in a home tri-meet. Coach Adam Hoffman "loves" this team's attitude and work ethic, and is very excited with their potential to do some great things this year.
