District 196 American Indian Education: Road to College Financial Aid Event
Please join District 196 American Indian Education as we continue our Road to College information and workshop series. We will be hosting a financial aid workshop on Saturday December 2nd, from 12pm-2pm at Eastview High School. We know that the college application process is lengthy and stressful and navigating the financial aid process even more so.
At this event we will learn about financial literacy and how to understand your student's award letter from a college and spend time filling out FAFSA and the MN Indian Scholarship application. We will have two guests very familiar with both applications to help us fill them out and answer any questions. One is from the financial aid office at Dakota County Technical College and the other is an outreach liaison from the MN Indian Scholarship.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me - Sierra Knudsen, sierra.knudsen@district196.org.

2024-2025 FAFSA Form Launch Date: December 31st, 2023
New This Week! 2024-2025 FAFSA Form Launch Date: December 31st, 2023
The new 2024-2025 FAFSA® Form will be available on December 31, 2023. While we wait for the new FAFSA® Form to become available, now is the perfect time for students and their contributors to get their FSA IDs. That way, you are ready to complete and submit the FAFSA® as soon as it becomes available.
While additional information can be found on the Federal Student Aid website, we included some key FAQs related to the FSA ID:
What is an FSA ID?
An FSA ID is a username and password that is required to log in to certain U.S. Department of Education (ED) websites. Your FSA ID identifies you as someone who has the right to access your own personal information on ED websites such as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®).
Why do you recommend doing this now?
Processing a new FSA ID can take up to 5 business days. By getting those IDs now, it means students and their families will be ready to complete and submit the FAFSA® once it's available and not have to wait for their FSA IDs to process.
Who needs an FSA ID?
Beginning with the 2024–25 FAFSA®, all contributors (student, student's spouse, and/or parent) must have their own FSA ID.
To find out if you are eligible for financial aid and to submit a FAFSA®, please visit the Federal Student Aid eligibility page.
How does someone get an FSA ID?
To create an FSA ID, please go to https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch.
What if the student or contributor doesn’t remember their FSA ID or is not sure if they have one?
To retrieve a forgotten FSA ID or password, please go to https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/sign-in/landing and click either the "Forgot my Username" or "Forgot my Password" links.
What if the parent of a student doesn't have a Social Security Number (SSN)?
Those contributors without an SSN, but whose student is eligible to apply for federal student aid, will need an FSA ID. However, they cannot yet create an FSA ID without an SSN. It is expected that this access will be available around the same time the FAFSA® is released.

University of Minnesota - Share My App Program
University of Minnesota - Share My App Program
The U of M Share My App Program allows applicants to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus to share their application with all University of Minnesota campuses with no additional application or fee. This program was initiated to showcase the opportunities available system-wide and encourage applications to other campuses: Crookston, Duluth, Morris, and Rochester.
Within one week of completing their applications to the Twin Cities campus, students will see an optional Share My App checklist item in their Application Tracker where they can fill out a short form to request us to share their application.
Students should keep the other campus application deadlines in mind to ensure they are applying on time and taking the appropriate steps to apply directly if they are making 'Share My App' requests too close to the deadlines.
