Student Achievement
The students in Ms. Sharpe’s Preschool class have been very busy meeting new friends and learning to work together. We have discovered that it is more fun and we can create bigger and fancier buildings when we work as a team. It also makes clean-up time much easier if we all work together. Whether we are building with our wooden blocks or our magnetic tiles our students demonstrate that it is never too early to learn about STEAM here in EHT!
Mrs. Culmone's Kindergarten students went on a school tour after reading "Rosie's Walk" and searched for Rosie. We collected red feathers along the way as they met the school nurse, secretary, teachers and learned what was in our school. We saw lots of red feathers, but no Rosie!
Ms. Culmone's Kindergarten students are learning to look at pictures (early pre-reading literacy skill) while reading "The Orange Butterfly," a picture book with no words. After, they collectively wrote words to create the story with words, learning about characters, emotions, and the use of speech bubbles. We also painted orange butterflies as an extension activity.
Ms. Culmone's students are learning 1-1 correspondence (early pre-reading) by tracking the Happy Birthday poem!
Ms. Culmone's Kindergarten students are working with letters (sandtable, play-do, and building)!
Mrs. Ebert’s first graders enjoyed their 10 minute walk for healthy brains and bodies on a rainy day! Thanks to our school’s community partner, Atlantic Care, for inspiring us with this idea.
Mrs. Flaherty's 2nd grade class is working in partners quizzing each other on addition facts then used a timed practice quiz at their rocket level to increase the fact fluency.
Mrs. Efstatos' 3rd grade class raised monarch caterpillars in the classroom and after they emerged, the butterflies were released to begin their journey to Mexico!
We are so incredibly proud of all our 1st, 2nd and 3rd graders that completed their summer reading log! Our Reading Specialist, Maria Dolbow presented these students with a movie, certificate and a goody bag to congratulate them for all of their hard work!
Nurse Ginger is taking each one of our students annual hearing and vision screening!
Climate and Culture
Mrs. Ebert's first graders highlight their classroom culture by being a “Family of Friends”.
Sharing respect, kindness and love for each other and for learning makes our classroom a great place to be.
Now Introducing... Our Building Nurses!
We would like to introduce our Slaybaugh Primary and Slaybaugh Elementary nurses! Our nurses are a very important piece to our Slaybaugh puzzle. They take care of everything from scrapes/bruises to hearing/vision screenings to making sure our Slaybaugh family is taken care of! We are very lucky to have these ladies apart of our team!

Renaissance announces character education words monthly! These students have the opportunity to earn monopoly money for showing good character. The more money they collect to drop into the character education boxes, the better chance they have to win a bike at the end of the school year! They also pick names out the box for their 'Kindness Cafe'! These student have the opportunity to have a pizza party on stage during their lunch period!
