Early Learning Center Update
October 6, 2023
A Greeting from Dr. Champagne-Lee
Dear Families,
A new month is here! October is a full month for students, with lots of learning experiences and fun. Our first grade students enjoyed the Prepare with Pedro assemblies this week. Many thanks to the American Red Cross for providing this educational experience regarding fire safety. Looking ahead to next week, some of our first grade classes will head to Longwood Gardens. As October is Fire Prevention Month, we are also anticipating a visit from the local fire department.
Enjoy the weekend. Thank you.
Educationally Yours,
Keya Champagne-Lee, Ed.D.

Author Dayđź“•đź“—đź“š
Thanks to a partnership with Read’s & Company, author and illustrator team Jonathan Stutzman and Heather Fox will be visiting students in grades 1-3 on Monday, October 16th. We are very excited to provide our students with this opportunity to learn more about the job of an author and illustrator, and have an insider look at the writing/drawing process. See the Book Order Form if you would like to purchase their books prior to the visit.

Morning Arrival: New Protocol Beginning Next Week
We would like to remind our car driving families to be calm and courteous when using the car line for both drop off and pick up. Over the past week, we have seen an increase in negative and unsafe interactions in the front parking lot between drivers. The safety of our students is of the utmost importance, and we need all drivers to follow the procedures of the car line to ensure students' safety. We hope that everyone will try harder to lead with grace and be safer, more appropriate role models for all of our students while dropping and picking up our children.
Effective on Tuesday, we are implementing a new procedure to help increase safety and efficiency of the drop off process. We strongly recommend that families use the car line. If you must park, you will need to do so at the far end of the parking lot (closest to Pothouse Road). You will then escort your child down the center sidewalk to the crosswalk. You will exit the parking lot in the same way you entered. Barricades will be in place to restrict access to the front part of the lot. For obvious safety reasons, students may not be dropped off in the middle of the parking lot; please use the car line or a designated parking spot at the far end of the lot. As emphasized over the past few weeks, only families with special needs or extenuating circumstances will be permitted to access the limited visitor parking spots. We will be giving placards to families with a known/documented need. If you have been given a placard, please stay in the left lane of the car line and a staff member will guide you to a visitor’s spot. Thank you for your cooperation and support in ensuring the safety of everyone.
