Tardiness - Every Minute Matters!
Did you know? Strong attendance is tied to improved student outcomes, including increased test scores and graduation rates.
For the last two years, we have been encountering a problem with chronic tardiness. Chronic tardiness can be a significant barrier to student academic and personal success. Every minute in the classroom counts. Students who arrive late miss out on valuable instruction. The cumulative effect of missing several minutes of instruction each day can add up quickly and significantly impact your child’s learning outcomes.
Furthermore, chronic tardiness is a disruptive behavior that not only impacts the late student but also the entire class. When students arrive late, it disrupts the flow of instruction and it can be a distraction to other students who are trying to focus on the lesson. This can cause a ripple effect, ultimately leading to a less productive and less efficient learning environment for everyone. We understand that life can be unpredictable, and sometimes situations arise that are outside of our control. However, chronic tardiness is a persistent issue that we need your help to address.
We are asking families to:
- Reinforce the importance of being on time to school with your child and work with them to develop a plan to arrive at school promptly. It may be helpful to discuss any underlying issues that may be contributing to the tardiness and work together to find solutions.
- ParentVUE: Monitor attendance and tardies.
- LHS Bell Schedules: Know your schedule.
- Remind students: there can be consequences for multiple tardies (detention, referral, etc.).

State Testing for 11th Graders (4/3 to 4/14)
Our Math and Science assessments will take place this week. We will be testing all 11th grade students. Students will need to bring their fully charged school issued Chromebooks for the test. If they do not have a school Chromebook, they can check one out in the library before school, during TSCT, at lunch or after school.
Math and Science will begin on Tuesday, April 4 at 8:30 AM. Students will be testing in their Math and Science classes on April 4 and April 5. They should report to their classroom for attendance and their teacher will advise those not testing where to go. Attendance will be taken.
Parents and Guardians, the data from state testing is incredibly important. Because of COVID, this is the first normed state assessment this class has taken since they were in 5th grade. Individual scores in Math, Language Arts and Science will be mailed to parents, and communicated to students.
If your student will be absent during testing, they will need to make up the test.
State law also requires us to inform you that a form is available from the Oregon Department of Education that allows you to opt your child out of the English and Math Assessments. Should you wish to opt out your child, fill out the form and submit it to the main office at Lakeridge - attention Lois Moll or email it back to molll@loswego.k12.or.us. Click here Opt Out Form
To opt out of the Science Assessment, please contact the school in writing with that request or add Science to the signed form when you turn it in.
State testing for English will happen April 11-14 in 11th grade English classes.
