Author Visit and Book Order
Willowbrook will host author Katherine Applegate for 3rd-, 4th-, and 5th-grade students on Thursday, September 22 at 10:10 am. Students are familiar with many of Applegate's books including The One and Only Ivan, The One and Only Bob, Crenshaw, and Wishtree, among others. You can order copies of her new book Odder(description below), through this link. All book orders are due by September 19.
Odder spends her days off the coast of central California, practicing her underwater acrobatics and spinning the quirky stories for which she’s known. She’s a fearless daredevil, curious to a fault. But when Odder comes face-to-face with a hungry great white shark, her life takes a dramatic turn, one that will challenge everything she believes about herself—and about the humans who hope to save her.
"Inspired by the true story of a Monterey Bay Aquarium program that pairs orphaned otter pups with surrogate mothers, this poignant and humorous tale told in free verse examines bravery and healing through the eyes of one of nature’s most beloved and charming animals."
Books will be signed by Katherine Applegate after her presentation.
Speech Screening Information
Kindergarten speech screenings will be conducted in the Fall (September 13)
2nd grade speech screenings will be conducted in the Winter (Date TBD).
The primary purpose of the speech screenings is to identify articulation (speech sound) errors.
Additional screenings for concerns with receptive language, expressive language, voice or fluency will be available at parent and/or teacher request.
Parents will only be notified if their child does not pass the screening. If the screening results indicate additional assessment and/or speech therapy support, you will be contacted by one of the speech-language pathologists.
If you have any questions about the screenings or concerns about your child’s communication skills, please contact your child’s teacher or one of the speech-language pathologists: Lisa Netzly at 847-400-8826, lnetzly@district30.org or Kelsey Martin at 847-400-8847, kmartin@district30.org.

Make Sure Your Health Forms Are Up-To-Date
Kindergarteners and students new to Willowbrook are required to provide the school with an Illinois health exam form with an immunization record and a physical, which was completed within one year prior to the first day of school. Kindergarteners and new students will also need to hand in a completed eye exam and dental form. The forms may be found at District 30 Health Forms. If your child will be participating in a Willowbrook sports club, it is required that your student have a health exam that was completed within one year prior to the last day of the club on file in the health office.
Second graders will need to turn in a dental form this school year by May 2023. If your student will be keeping allergy or asthma medication in the health office, a current health care plan from your physician is required.
Before any medication can be dispensed, the school must receive written instructions and a signed permission form from the student’s physician and parent. All medications must be properly labeled and kept in the Health Office. Parental permission must also be obtained for non-prescription medication. Please contact the Health Office at 847-400-8860 or lmullen@district30.org if you have questions.
