Greenville Splash Masters

Our inaugural event was held on Aug. 29th at Lake Jocassee. We had 35 volunteers from Greenville Splash and many more swimmers from our team participated in this fabulous event. Thank you so much for your commitment to our mission, "Bringing swimmers together to save children's lives." Our volunteers and swimmers were heartfelt in their dedication to hosting such a fabulous event. The weather was beautiful for the 219 swimmers and everything turned out perfect. We had so many compliments from the participants, it was overwhelming.

2. 104 Female swimmers
3. 115 Male swimmers
4. Oldest swimmer - 71 (Martin Healy)
5. Youngest swimmer - 11 (Caroline Lucas)
6. 9 States represented; S. & N. Carolina, Georgia, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Virginia and Florida.

Many swimmers have great technique until they take a breathe. Even Michael Phelps has a small hitch in his stroke when he takes a breathe. Remember to stay balanced in the water, keep yourself tall in the water and keep your chin tucked when you turn to get a breath. Don't lift your head to the front. Keep your feet kicking small and fast when breathing, don't let your legs go wide, stay balanced.

Here are some drills to help you keep your form while breathing:

8 x 50 Swim BUT only kick when you breathe

4 x 100 Strong pace (do not drop the kick when you breathe)

8 x 50 Pay attention to the kick when you breathe

4 x 100 Swim with fins (do not drop the kick when you breathe)
