September 11

Dear LOHS Families,
We had a great first week of school!
As a reminder, please help us make sure our students understand the importance of complying with the following basic standards in our continued efforts to Protect the Thunder!
- Students need to make it a priority to get to class on time – EVERY HOUR.
- Cell phones are to be kept out of sight during class time unless given permission by the classroom teacher to have them out. Students who use cell phones/ear buds/etc. in a manner deemed distracting to themselves or others may have those items confiscated to the main office. Repeated issues with electronic devices of any type can lead to discipline for that student.
- E-Hall passes are for emergencies only. Except in cases of documented medical needs, individual e-hall passes will be limited this year. Students need to use them sparingly and wisely.
- Vaping in any form is ILLEGAL – do not use, possess, or distribute anything to do with vaping or other illegal substances. Violators face not only school discipline, but also ramifications from Oakland County Sheriffs Department.
- Bathrooms are not for hanging out. Use the facilities appropriately and then get back to where you are supposed to be. Loitering in bathrooms is not only gross, but also against our school policy.
- Keep it simple! Be in your class on time, ready to participate to give yourself a productive and successful school year.
Thank you for your help in keeping our students safe, productive, and most importantly, happy!

In addition, our teaching staff is always available for you to contact via email or your student’s TEAMS should you have any questions.
We feel this is a great way for parents to have all the information they need about our classes and teachers right at their fingertips and at the same time ask questions that normally don’t get answered during the typical high school curriculum night.
LOCS Technology Department has created a parent direction sheet bellow to help you access these videos.

If you have any trouble accessing the videos, please feel free to reach out to your child's instructor or rosa.everitt@lok12.org.
Attendance Blurb
Attendance is crucial for student success at Lake Orion High School. Research shows that missing 2 days a month can lead to lower academic performance and affect standardized test scores. We're committed to prioritizing attendance and appreciate your support. While valid reasons for absences exist, regular attendance fosters optimal learning. In case of unexpected absences, teachers provide materials, but in-person learning is unmatched. Chronic absenteeism is a significant concern for us. We believe in a strong school-home partnership to promote attendance and a positive view of school. Thank you for your support.

Career Readiness
Xello Homeroom
Xello is FERPA approved online program that we at LOCS use to help students prepare for the future, whether it is preparing for their time at Lake Orion or beyond. This program offers a variety of activities from kindergarten to the end of high school. These activities help students build self-knowledge, explore their post-secondary options, and create achievable plans. They develop the 21st-century skills needed to thrive in the world of work.
Next Wednesday, Sept 20th, LOHS will be holding its 1st Homeroom with the concentration being Educational Development Plans (EDP), which they work on in Xello. In addition, this platform is used to help students build a talent portfolio and schedule their classes for their following year here in the district.
Parents who are interested in accessing the Xello Family Portal may do so through an online Microsoft Form.
Xello offers a number of online Resources for parents to navigate and Get Started. However, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to:

Free Breakfast and Lunch
This year, each student will be able to receive one free breakfast and one free lunch per school day.
What makes a breakfast free?
- Students must take a fruit or juice with their breakfast entrée for the meal to qualify as a complete meal and be FREE
What makes a lunch free?
- To qualify for a FREE full meal, students must take a fruit or vegetable (they may take both) with their lunch entrée; a milk is not required to make a complete meal
- Juice and milk are NOT FREE, unless the complete meal is taken
- An entrée without the required fruit or vegetable is NOT FREE
- At the Middle Schools, and High School students are allowed to purchase a second entrée, or items from the snack bars if they have money in their accounts to purchase those items
Students will have to enter their student ID Number into the keypad so we can track that each student is only getting one free breakfast and one free lunch per day. Please note, we are not charging them for the meal unless they chose a la cart items; which are not included in the free meals. A la carte items are snack foods such as chips, bottles of water, cookies, fruit snacks, etc.) Students can't make free meals out of snacks.
Please keep in mind, lunch lines are always long at the beginning of the school year but will get better as everyone gets into the groove.
Please be sure, if you received free and reduced services in the past, it is important to continue to fill out this application as this will assist with additional expenses.
It is important that all students get in the habit of checking their email often
