Elections and Voting
November 3rd is a great day for Americans to celebrate the democratic process and our constitutional right to vote. Although the vast majority of our students are too young to legally participate in the process, here are some activities that support this current event in your classroom with students.
"Breakout" Activity
Keyla Casts Her Vote is an elementary level breakout activity. Primary grades can complete together as a class and intermediate students can easily complete in groups in breakout rooms on zoom. Middle School and High School groups can use this link to engage students in a fun warm up activity.
The Electoral College
Students can access the PBS Electoral Decoder and click the "Explore Elections" button to find an interactive cartogram to explore all 58 past presidential elections from 1789-2016. The interactive web based "Presidential Predictor" can also be used to see how state-to-state voting impacts the overall results of the election.
Democracy - A Quick Introduction
This brief Democracy video highlights an overview of the democratic process from it's early beginnings in ancient Greece.
