Principal Message
Dear Thorndyke Families,
I want to extend my sincere gratitude to all of you for everything you do to support our school community. As the upcoming holiday season is upon us, it is my sincere wish for good health and well being to all of you! It is also during this time, I am reminded of my commitment in public service to students, families and staff. I am reminded each day through my interactions with your students why I serve as the Proud Principal of Thorndyke Elementary School.
Operation Warm Coat was a great success! A BIG thank you to all the staff and volunteers from Nordstroms and Operation Warm Coat organization, who spent this past Tuesday fitting all of our students with a new winter coat.
Our Thorndyke boy's soccer team went undefeated this season, beating Cascade View and Tukwila Elementary twice this year. Excellent playing by our 4th and 5th grade teams all year. Special thanks to the boy's team captain Damion Reyes and our remarkable keeper Chanvisal Ken. Additionally, The girls soccer played their absolute BEST this season which is a huge win for these young athletes - Annunziata Cortez-walker’s amazing goal blocking at last nights game. Coach Jamie and Coach Dawn would like to thank everyone who came out in the rain to cheer and support our Boys and Girls soccer teams. We had over 30 students participate in the soccer season and we can't wait for Basketball to start in January. As a reminder, there is no cost to families for students to participate in our elementary sports program.
As you prepare for the upcoming holiday season and the new year, I wish you and your family a beautiful, prosperous and joyous season.Thank you for your partnership and continued support.

Both have helped our the students in our school get brand new shoes and coats through "Shoes that Fit" and "Operation Warm" but if they did not put in the work then we not have that for our families! Thank you both for bringing this to Thorndyke! Ms. Goodman is also our Staff of the Month for November! Congrats!
Math & Reading Night Team

These two service members volunteered their time to be present at our Veteran Day Assembly! As a community, we are greatful to all those that dedicate their time to this line of service. Thank you to all those family member veterans that are also part of the Thorndyke family that attended as well.

The test takes only about 30 minutes to complete.

December 7th & 8th our 5th grade classes will be visiting the Museum of Flight to test their new program "Operation Comet" that directly aligns with their science unit of Astronomy! How cool?!
School Reminders
School Attendance is Important (Compulsary Attendance)
Our school compulsary Board Policy: 3121: Parents of any child eight years of age and under eighteen years of age its is their responsibility to make sure thier child attends school when it is in session, and parents of any child six or seven years old, who have enrolled the child in school, shall cause the child to attend school for the full time when such school may be in session, unless the child is formally withdrawn from enrollment by the parents. For additional information please review this link.
- For absences or late arrivals, please call: 206-901-7603 and leave a message to inform our attendance secretary.
- If you have an appointment and need to pick up early, we request that you do so by 2:30 pm whenever possible, it so it causes less disruptions during dismissal routines.
- The weather is getting chilly, please send your student in weather appropriate clothing as everyone goes outside for recess!
- Toys from home must remain at home, they are not allowed at school. We wouldn't want it to get lost here at school.
Cold and Flu Season
Cold and Flu Season is upon us, while we want to make sure all of our students are at school each day, it is important if someone is sick, they stay home. Some indicators of cold and flu include: fever, vomiting, body aches, cough, chest congestion and/or running nose. When symptoms are subsiding, including fever free without medication for 24 hours, then your student may return to school. We greatly appreciate your help and support in creating a healthy school for everyone.
