Message from the Principal
Dear Stonegate Elementary Families,
It has been a wonderful first week at Stonegate Elementary, and we wanted to take a moment to share some highlights with you.
Throughout the past week, each class has been busy building strong and meaningful relationships with their new teachers. We understand the importance of trust and connection in the learning process, and we are committed to creating a nurturing environment for your children.
In addition to getting to know their teachers, our students had the opportunity to tour our school building. During these tours, we discussed and emphasized the significance of our school agreements - Care for Self, Care for Others, and Care for the Environment. These agreements serve as the foundation of our school community, guiding us in creating a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
We were honored to have some special guests visit our school this week. On Wednesday, we had the joy of hosting Dr. Monifa McKnight, Superintendent of Montgomery County Public Schools, Brenda Wolff from the MCPS Board of Education, Jewel Sanders, Director of School Support and Wellbeing, Dr. Donna Redmond-Jones, the Associate Superintendent, and Shawn Bartley, who serves on the Maryland State Board of Education and is a former parent of Stonegate Elementary. Their presence reminded us of the strong network of support we have within our educational community. They visited classrooms and saw the amazing teaching and learning that happens every day at Stonegate. I included some pictures below of their visit. Dr. McKnight was so happy to meet our own Ms. McKnight, first grade teacher. They bonded over having lived in South Carolina. On Friday, Dr. McKnight sent the picture (below) to all MCPS staff.
We encourage you to stay engaged with your child's education by reading the Stonegate Greetings newsletter in its entirety, as it contains valuable information and updates.
Thank you for entrusting us with your children's education, and please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. We are here to support you and your child every step of the way.
Warmly,
Linda M. Jones

Car Rider Etiquette
For the students' safety, we ask all cars to follow our safety procedures.
Don’t cut in line. Do not use the lanes in the parking lot to cut in line. Stay in the car rider line.
Don't pull into a parking spot and allow your children to walk through the lot.
Don’t park in the line and get out of your vehicle.
We have provided all students a card with the student's first and last name typed. Please show the card with your child's first and last name.
Make sure your child is ready to get out of the vehicle when it's your turn.
As you drive, be mindful of the families who live near the school.
Please remember, BE PATIENT.
Students Walking Home
For student safety, Stonegate Elementary wants to verify which students walk home alone and which students wait for a caregiver to pick them up. On Friday, students who were dismissed as "Walkers" took home this permission slip. Please return the slip as soon as you can.

Clothing To Cash Recycling Program
Clothing to Cash® is a program that collects New and Used Clothing, Shoes, Sheets, Towels, (all Textiles) and pays the school 10 cents for every pound collected. The program is operated entirely OUTSIDE and will be located in the school parking lot, where students, parents, staff and the community can drop off items throughout the year. They have state of the art photo quantity sensors installed in each bin that report 3 times daily to prevent overflow and allows the company to schedule service as needed (no other companies use this technology). They empty the collection bin, weigh the contents to determine our school earnings and pays our school monthly. The average school (500 - 1000 students) will earn $1000- $2000 yearly if each student would donate just one 13-gallon kitchen size trash bag yearly!! Add in parents, siblings, relatives, neighbors, and staff and Stonegate’s earnings could really increase.
