Principal's Message- Kentucky Summative Assessment Results
Dear Sandersville Families,
Throughout the school year, we monitor students’ learning progress regularly. Starting in third grade, elementary school students in Kentucky take the Kentucky Summative Assessment (KSA) at the end of each year to determine if they have mastered grade-level standards. The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) evaluates schools and districts based on student performance.
According to the results made public today, Sandersville earned a High rating from KDE with the corresponding color of Green. Scores from four different areas were combined to achieve this Green rating. The status of our four categories are as follows:
Reading and Math- High
Science, Social Studies, and Writing- High
English Learner Progress- Very High
School Climate and Safety Student Survey Results- High
I will note that our Reading and Math scores dropped slightly giving our Reading and Math a "change" classification of decline. We view this data as a checkpoint to calibrate our work moving forward. Reducing the number of Novice scores and reducing achievement gaps between subgroups remain top priorities. This month, individual student test results will be given to the families of all students who took the Kentucky Summative Test last spring, along with information about how to interpret the results.
While no single test or assessment defines our school or students, we are happy to see that the hard work of our students, staff, and the support of our families is reflected in our rating.
Thank you for everything you do to support the success of our students at Sandersville.
If assistance is ever needed, call the office at 859- 381-4980 or email matt.marsh@fayette.kyschools.us.
Sincerely,
Mr. Marsh, Sandersville Principal

Cold Weather Reminders
As temperatures turn cooler, we want to send a few timely reminders about student safety related to colder weather. Student safety is our top priority. We rely on families as our partners to make sure children are dressed appropriately for the cold weather. Sandersville urges students to wear winter hats, gloves, and heavy coats. Assistance is available through our Family Resource Center if students need coats or winter clothing. Our classes go out most days unless the actual temperature or wind chill falls below freezing.

Sharkathon Fun Run
Thank you for being so supportive of our Sharkathon Fundraiser. Our families and students raised $19,867, our best year yet! 70% of donations came from outside our household base and we had 718 sponsors (+ 51 from last year). Great job!
Other news:
- We have new Sandersville Spirit Gear available. Check out the new options.
- Please join the PTA. We currently have more staff members signed up than family members. Family members outnumber our staff by nearly 15:1, so help us balance the ratio. Click here to join.
- All volunteers, including PTA activities, field trips, and Field Day, must complete a background check. Family members need to apply in advance and do so through the district website.

Volunteer at a November 4th Meal Creation Event
One of the Family Resource Center’s partners, Centerpointe Church on Greendale Road, is hosting a Generosity Feeds event on Saturday, November 4th, at 10 AM. This program prepares/packs the beans & rice packs that are included in our weekend food backpack program for both Sandersville AND Meadowthorpe, as well as many other schools in Fayette County.
There are a couple of ways to help! Donations are needed, as well as volunteers to help pack. Families can volunteer together for this event. Click to volunteer and/or donate.
