Happy Summer! It is so great to be able to reach out and say hello with the first issue of the Tustin Connect News for the 2020-21 School Year. So much has happened this summer and I can't wait to share all of the good stuff with you all. We are excited to get started and look forward to welcoming all of our new families. Principal's Message...

I'd like to offer a warm welcome to all of our new families and a big WELCOME BACK to our returning families. We are so blessed to have such a supportive and warm TC family and we are excited to see you all(virtually at least). It's been a summer filled with lots of planning and shifting, and some more planning. We continue to grow and look forward to welcome new staff and students to our family. In the meantime, I'd like to share some updates below. Lots going on and wanted to keep you all in the loop. UPDATED DATE: August 6th Virtual Senior Graduation

On August 6th at 6 pm, we will be celebrating our Tustin Connect Class of 2020 through a Virtual Graduation ceremony. All students will be recognized through a video link! We are excited to recognize and celebrate the Senior Class of 2020. Graduating seniors and their families will receive a link via email prior to the event to view the ceremony.

ACTION ITEM: Online Data Confirmation

All families returning to TUSD must complete a Data Confirmation. It's quick and easy and way better than the first day packets that resulted in hours of writing your name, address and signature on multiple documents. The process is done through your TUSD Parent Portal account and requires your parent login. The process will include the opportunity to review/change contact information, select appropriate student authorizations, and review updated district materials.

Master Agreements

All students and families are required to complete an Annual Master Agreement as the final part of the registration process prior to the first day of school. The Master Agreement is required before any instruction can begin. Our teachers are working to set those meetings up. Meetings will occur over the next few weeks prior to the first day of school August 13th. If you have not done so already, K-8 parents can use the links below to start the process for scheduling your master agreements. High School parents will be contacted starting 8/10.

TUSD's School Opening & Safety Plan

The health, safety, and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority as they return to school. When the new school year begins, the on-campus school will look much different than previous years due to new health and safety measures.


Tustin Unified has created a School Opening and Safety Plan that addresses how schools will meet the needs of students in the coming school year. The plan to reopen schools is based on current guidance from public health officials, state agencies, as well as your valuable input from the recent parent survey, and will be updated as the situation evolves. As a result, TUSD has put together two options that will address social-distancing requirements to keep TUSD students and staff safe while also supporting student learning.


For the 2020-21 academic year, Tustin Unified will provide families a choice of two instructional options, including the hybrid model – a blend of in-person and remote learning, and Tustin Connect (K-12) – 100% online virtual school with optional in-person instruction.


The TUSD School Opening and Safety Plan (English linked, Spanish below) covers ​the many procedures and protocols that are being put in place for a successful and safe reopening. The plan can also be found on the TUSD website at https://www.tustin.k12.ca.us.

Welcome to our Newest Maverick...

As our numbers continue to grow, we are excited to announce that Sharon Maeda, former principal of TMA, Coordinator of Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), and New Teacher Induction administrator for TUSD has agreed to become our newest elementary classroom teacher. Prior to her work as a principal and coordinator, Mrs. Maeda was a teacher and district coordinator in the Anaheim City School District where she was awarded the district's Golden Appl Award and District Teacher of the Year Award. She was an Orange County Teacher of the Year nominee and was nominee for the Disney American Teacher Award. Seriously! How luck are we to have her?! She will add so much to our students, staff, and school as our newest elementary teacher. Welcome, Mrs. Maeda!

K-12 Device Distribution

This year, all students in grades K-12 will receive a TUSD issued device if they choose to. K-8 will receive iPads and 9-12 students will receive Surface Pros. Here's the schedule and dates.

August 11th @ the High School Campus:

9th: 8-9:00 am

10th: 9:00-10 am

11th: 10-11:30 am

12th: 11:30-12:30 pm

Open Time: 12:30-2 pm

August 12th @ the K-8 Campus

K: 8:00- 9:00

1st/2nd: 9:00-10:00

3rd/4th: 10:00-11:00

5th/6th: 11:00-12:00

7th/8th: 12:00- 1:00

Open Time: 1:00 - 2:00

*If you are unable to make your assigned time, you can come during any other window, please be patient though as there may be a delay in checking out your device.
