A NOTE FROM MRS. RAWLINS
Dear Sloan Creek Families,
We had a busy and fun week here at "The Creek"! The Dads @ Sloan program kicked off and is already a huge success. Thank you to our PTO and the Butler family for the countless hours and loving care dedicated to this program.
This week's newsletter is packed with celebrations, updates, and much more. Please note the upcoming deadlines:
- GT Referrals must be submitted through PowerSchool today.
- Chromebook Insurance purchase deadline is tomorrow. Purchase Here!
While there is no school for students tomorrow, our teachers and staff are gearing up for a day of planning and learning together. We look forward to having students back at school on Tuesday, September 5. Have a wonderful holiday weekend!
Sloan Creek PROUD,
❤️🐆 Megan Rawlins
SPOTLIGHT: MEET 'MARSHAL SHAUN'
We are pleased to introduce our new School Marshal, Shaun Tomlinson. 'Marshal Shaun' served as a Fairview Police Officer for the last ten years. His brother and uncle are also police officers. Shaun owns horses and enjoys riding in his free time. He also enjoys fishing and football. Please join us in giving Shaun a warm welcome to Lovejoy!
We would also like to extend best wishes to Jorge Jacquez as he will continue to serve our school community in his new role as School Marshal at Lovejoy High School.
SPOTLIGHT: "TEXAS COLD FRONT"
Students spent time playing outdoors this week as the "cold front" came through!
SPOTLIGHT: SCIENCE
Testing Conductors in 5th Grade Science
SPOTLIGHT: DADS @ SLOAN
We were thrilled to welcome our first DADS @ SLOAN this week! Thank you to our Dads for taking the time to help out at Sloan Creek. The students and staff value your presence and hard work.

- Please sit at a reserved table with only your student.
- Please do not bring additional lunches or food for any other child than your own.
- Please do not enter the lunch line with students.
- Please check out through the front office directly following lunch and do not enter any other areas of the building.
GIFTED & TALENTED REFERRAL - DEADLINE
Fall Referrals for Grades 5-12
Parents must complete the referral form in PowerSchool.
Referrals due August 31, 2023
Testing: Saturdays, September 16 and 23, 2023
Additional information may be found on the G/T portion of the LISD website.
CHROMEBOOK INSURANCE - DEADLINE
September 1 is the last day to purchase Chromebook Insurance!
Please visit https://iturity.com/lovejoy/ to purchase this inexpensive insurance until Sept. 1st. This one time payment of $25 will cover any repair associated with a student's device, no matter how many times it is damaged throughout the school year. Lovejoy ISD chromebooks, like any instructional material, represent valuable tools for classroom instruction. Please note that this insurance does not cover lost or stolen devices or chargers.
ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL UPDATES
🚗🚙🚗🚙 PLEASE DO NOT MERGE EARLY 🚗🚙🚗🚙
Please wait until the "merge point" to create one line. Remaining in two lines for as long as possible reduces the backup onto Country Club Rd. Thank you!
IS YOUR STUDENT GOING HOME A DIFFERENT WAY?
We do not use School Dismissal Manager at Sloan Creek. Please let your child know before school, or call the office before 2:00PM and we will get them the message.
THANK YOU for your continued excellence in the carline!
A few reminders:
- 5th and 6th Grade students may be dropped off by car in the front or back of the school beginning at 7:10AM.
- Please PULL FORWARD along the sidewalk as far as you can - this helps maximize the number of students getting in and out of cars, and makes the system faster!
- If your student is not in your vehicle by the time the line starts moving, you will be asked to pull around into the parking lot.
- Please DO NOT park and walk up to help keep our traffic flow moving.
RAINY DAY DISMISSAL
- You received a bright colored cardstock with your student's name and homeroom teacher. This will need to be displayed in your car window on rainy days so we can dismiss safely from indoors.
PARENT/STUDENT COMMUNICATION
If a parent needs to communicate with students during the school day THIS MUST BE DONE THROUGH THE FRONT OFFICE. Please do not text or call your child, as they will not have access to their cell phones.
Teachers will not allow students to call parents from classroom phones or cell phones for any reason. For anything urgent, students will be sent to the office with a pass to call parents.
-Forgot water bottle? We can supply a water bottle or cup.
-Forgot lunch? Student may buy a cafeteria lunch.
ATTENDANCE MATTERS
HELPFUL TIPS:
- When communicating an absence please include the first and last name of your student in the email as well as the reason for the absence.
- Automated emails/phone calls are placed at the end of the day to notify parents of any absences that have not been communicated.
- Allow time for your student's attendance to be updated. I will always respond to your email indicating attendance has been updated. Thank you for your patience.
- Who to email - all attendance matters need to go to Julie Boardman, julie_boardman@lovejoyisd.net or scis_attendance@lovejoyisd.net (they both go to Julie)

My goal is for your library to be a safe place for collaboration, exploration, and recreation. Engaging with stories and collaborative activities encourages students to further develop their empathy and become successful representatives of the SCIS and Lovejoy ISD community. Happy Reading,
Rachel Brenner
