Surfside Shark Bites
Week of October 30 - November 3, 2023
A Note From Principal Frandsen
Happy Friday, Surfside!
A huge "thank you" to our students who have done a great job this year demonstrating our S.E.A. values: Self direction, Effective communication, and Accountable citizen. A huge part of this work is the partnership with our incredible and supportive families. We appreciate and value you in preparing your student for success in life.
Over the past couple of weeks, we've seen a slip in attendance for some students. Obviously, this will negatively impact grades and ultimately learning. Please support your student in making it to school every day and completing their assignments on time. School is not always easy, and sometimes it may not be fun, however, the goal is to earn a high school diploma and we are here to help our kids do exactly that. When things get hard, we are here to support you with a variety of resources including tutoring, counseling, and mentoring. If you need something, please let us know.
Have a great weekend!

Shark Nibbles…K-5th Updates
Welcome to November! Staff and students had a wonderful time closing out October by celebrating as a school community with our annual Trick or treat event for the K-5th graders.
Important- Please make sure if you have not already turned in work for this attendance month, that it is turned in by Monday! New units are available in the office. Be advised, Month 4 is a “short” attendance month because of the Thanksgiving Break, November 20-24th. Students will be earning 14 days of attendance credit. The work turn in date will be Friday, 12/1/23.
Plan Ahead- Winter Break will be coming up 12/21/23 - 1/5/24. Monday & Tuesday 12/18/23 & 12/19/23 (No In-Person Sessions will be held). Teachers will be finalizing report cards, & assessments. Virtual Sessions will still be held on those days.
iReady Diagnostic Alert! The 2nd Diagnostic window will be December 4-20th. Remember, this Diagnostic is required by the Master Agreement and is very important for progress tracking. Please plan to carefully begin the diagnostics as soon as the window opens, and complete them over several days for the most accurate results.

MONTH 3 WORKBOOKS ARE DUE TODAY!!! You can drop them off in the grey mailbox at the front of the school any time before Monday. Please check your student’s workbook for completion before turning it in.
The new workbooks for Months 4 & 5A are available for pick up on the blue bookshelf. Please make sure your student has the new workbook by Monday morning so they can start on the right foot! This workbook combines Months 4 & 5A. Month 5 is split by winter break, so the first half will be with Month 4 and the second half will be with Month 6.
Please also make sure you are checking your student’s Edmentum assignments regularly. If you have not yet signed up for Family Sensei, please do so as soon as possible to access the Friday reports.
Now is a good time to double-check your Aeries parent portal to update your contact information and to make sure we have the correct phone numbers, email addresses, and mailing address. Please also delete any phone numbers or emails that are no longer valid
Just a reminder that students should be working on their independent study assignments for approximately 4 hours per day. If students are behind they’ll need to spend additional time to get caught up.
Have a great weekend!
