FAC Weekly Update
November 3, 2023
Good Afternoon, FAC Family
We hope you had a fantastic week! Thank you to all who came out to support our FAC Dance Studio for their Autumn Dance Offerings! We are so proud of our dancers’ work, who continue to make amazing progress each and every day. Many of this dedicated group of students also spend time dancing in studios outside of the FAC. We thank them for their commitment and are grateful for the leadership of the Dance Faculty - Ms. Gina and Ms. Anita!
TONIGHT is opening night of the FAC Fall Play, Everybody. Tickets are going fast and seating is limited to 125 per performance. See the advertisement in the newsletter to secure your seat.

This Week's Student Leadership Lesson
Embracing Failure - from Dr. John C. Maxwell
"The difference between average people and achieving people is their perception of and response to failure."
It's all about how you see failure and what you do about it. Here's the truth: Life's question isn't whether you'll face problems; it's about how you face them.
- Average folks point fingers; achievers take responsibility.
- Average folks fear failure; achievers embrace it as a stepping stone.
- Average folks let past errors hold them back; achievers take bold risks.
- Average folks give up; achievers persevere.
J. Wallace Hamilton once said, "People are training for success when they should be training for failure. Failure is far more common than success; poverty is more prevalent than wealth; and disappointment more normal than arrival."
High achievers confront failure head-on and push forward. They understand that success often follows failure. No matter how tough the challenges, the key isn't in changing your circumstances; it's in transforming yourself. Remember, it's not your circumstances but your response to failure that paves the way to success.

November Volunteer Opportunities:
https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090949A9AB23A7F85-45553999-facnovember
The Fine Arts Center will host several student performances in November, with great opportunities for parents to get involved by volunteering! These evening and weekend shifts take less than an hour of your time and can be a good fit for working parents or those who have other commitments during the school day.
Volunteer shifts are not limited to parents of that evening's performers! In fact, you'll see a note beside each shift indicating whether that shift is a better fit for parents with a student performing in that night's show... or if it's better suited for a parent from a different art discipline who can handle close-up duties after the show has started. We encourage visual arts, architecture, and creative writing parents, as well as performing arts parents whose students are in a different show, to help out so parents of performers can take their seats before the show begins! If we have enough volunteers, we will offer FAC merchandise sales prior to each performance.
If you have any questions about volunteering, please email nikidpeters3@gmail.com. Thanks for your support of the FAC students and teachers!
Merchandise Chairperson Needed
We are looking for someone to shadow our current Merchandise Chair, Michele Turner, as she is leaving this role after her son’s graduation from the FAC in the spring. The future chair will shadow Michele to learn about our current inventory, vendors, and sales events and be ready to take over this position next school year. The Merchandise Chairperson will collaborate with Mr. Popat to come up with new ideas for merchandise as well as facilitating ordering and distribution of the items.
Please speak with Michele if you think you may be interested in this role. She can be reached at micheleturner@me.com or 864-968-5090.

About Seraph Brass
Celebrating its tenth-anniversary season, Seraph Brass was founded by trumpet soloist Mary Elizabeth Bowden with the mission of showcasing the excellence of female brass players and highlighting musicians from marginalized groups both in personnel and in programming. Winners of the American Prize in Chamber Music, the group has been praised for their “beautiful sounds" (American Record Guide), "fine playing” (Gramophone), and “staggeringly high caliber of performance” (Textura). Now in its tenth anniversary season, Seraph primarily performs as a quintet, with a dynamic roster drawing from America’s top brass musicians.
