Principal Chat
We are sliding into September already - next thing you know it will be time for pumpkin muffins, pumpkin spiced lattes and the leaves will start changing color.
We had our first fire drill last week and it went VERY well. There were a few minor things that need improvement and these were shared with staff. But the most important thing - exiting the building in a safe, expedient and orderly manor, was exemplary! Kids and staff did really well. As required by the state, we will continue to have various drills each month, including the lock down drills (many kids call these bad guy drills). We always let parents know when this drills are going to happen so you can prepare your students. No matter how "soft" and non-intrusive we try to make these drills they are still very hard, especially emotionally, for staff and students.
We are finishing up our beginning of year (BOY) testing and your kids have been rock stars! There is a lot of data gathering still going on, mostly at the teacher level, so they can fine tune small groups and then, starting September 8, teachers will begin the process of meeting with students to develop their personalized learning plans (PLP) for 1st - 6th grade and new this year, kindergarten learning plans (KLPs) for our youngest Bullfrogs.
The PLP or KLP will be shared with you digitally twice each month via email with a link to the student's PLP or KLP. More information about the PLP and KLP can be found in the newsletter below. It's a LONG but informative article and a critical piece regarding your child's personalized learning experience at Bridge.

Personalized Learning Plans - PLP and KLP
The PLP and KLP are developed by teachers with students and shared twice monthly with parents via email. Teachers meet twice monthly with students in grades 1 - 6 during Friday advisory to review progress and update the PLP and the updated PLP is shared with parents. Kindergarten teachers update the KLP with student progress monthly and share the KLP with parents.
The PLP and KLP will show your student's current levels of achievement in reading and math and will list an end of year goal for reading and math as well. In addition, there will be a plan of action to help your child know what they need to do at school to help them attain their goal. This part of the PLP and KLP are written by the teacher with input from your student. Having your child part of their goal process is a huge part of ensuring they take ownership and accountability of their learning. In fact, experts have determined that student involvement in goals, grades and progress has one the of the greatest effect sizes on academic growth.
Another part of the PLP includes a list of things a child can do AT HOME to help them achieve their goals. Since Bridge teachers do not assign or require homework, this is a great way to help students personalize learning at home to help them achieve their goals. Again, another way Bridge helps students take ownership of their learning.
Tabs at the bottom of the PLP and KLP include the child's progress report, updated for beginning of year (BOY), the middle of year (MOY in January) and end of year (EOY in May), Acadience reading and math progress updated monthly, and data to show metrics for Imagine Learning and Acadience reading and math grade level benchmark scores.
Finally, our 1st - 6th grade teachers will invite parents to attend a PLP meeting four times each year with their child. One of these meetings is during parent teacher conference in March. This meeting can be in person at the school or via Zoom. Teachers will begin sending information for meetings in September. These meetings are super important to help you stay abreast of your child's progress and also to help you learn how to navigate the personalized learning plan. If you do not get a link to schedule a meeting please email your child's teacher.

Important Information from the Office
DOORS ARE LOCKED Ring the Bell - the bell is located near the window to the left of the front doors and is labeled with pointing arrows. There is a picture of this right here >>>>>>>>>>>>>
Once you ring the bell the office is notified with a phone call and a video. They will verify you are a person that should be admitted to the school. There is NOT a buzzer - the office will talk to you through the speaker and the little light to the right of the door will turn green to notify you the door is open. Then, once you get into the school the office door is ALSO locked. Wait patiently and the office will unlock this door for you as well. Currently, this light does not turn green - we are working to get that fixed. Instead, watch the office staff and they will signal to you to open the door.
BASE - Students must be on the BASE list to attend our after school program. On the flip side, if a student is on the BASE list, they will be kept in class for BASE. BASE runs Monday - Thursday, 3:30 - 4:30 pm. Pick up is AT 4:30. Our staff are scheduled to leave at 4:45 pm. PLEASE arrive no later than 4:45 to pick up your students. Dinner is served at 4:15 pm. Students who are checked out prior to 4:15 pm are NOT served dinner. Is is a requirement of the CACFP state contract as the FREE dinner is tied to the academic after-school program and students must attend 45 minutes of after school instruction to receive the free dinner. To make changes to your child's BASE schedule please call the school (801)499-5180 or email Mrs. Archuleta at Stacey@BridgeCharter.org
Student Check Out - all individuals who check out your child MUST be on the Aspire system and must bring ID to the school. If you need help with Aspire you can ask the front office for assistance (801)499-5180.
Day Care Parking ONLY - The fence along the west side of the north end of the school is for dar care vans ONLY. Please do not park there. These vans have NO WHERE else to park and cannot navigate our parking lot.
Label Jackets and Water Bottles - it is that time of year and our lost and found will start filling up with water bottles and jackets. Every couple of weeks we throw out the water bottles and donate the jackets and lost clothing items. Help us get your items to the right owner and label your kids' items.

Online Lunch Payments
When payments are made online we must complete several steps to get the payments moved to Aspire. We do this every Monday and Wednesday. After we run the online report it takes another day for the money to post to your student's Aspire account. Please allow 3 - 5 days from the day you make the online payment to the day the information posts in Aspire.
The link to make payments online is found on our website by selecting the MEALS icon.
Volunteers
- Cutting Watch Me Learn tickets (stop by the office)
- Pulling weeds in the rock areas and park strips (we have all the area in front of the school and up 4800 S along the school fence).
- Using rakes and shovels to redistribute the gravel from the bottom of the retention area in front of the school to the top area to cover the black landscape screen.
- Parking lot duty before and after school (just check in at the office, put on a yellow vest and talk to Travis in the crosswalk for instructions)
Once your family has logged 30 volunteer hours they can stop by the front office and ask for a VOLUNTEER FROG. Then, write your family's name on the frog and tape the frog on our volunteer pond in the front foyer.
If you want to volunteer but do not have the time, you can donate $90 to cover the 30 hours. If you choose to donate, complete the volunteer form. You can donate in the office or by using our DONATE icon on the home page of our website.

For this reason we encourage ALL families to apply for Free/Reduced lunch through Aspire to ensure every single student receives the services needed, including access to free or reduced meals if appropriate.
Title I provides avenues for parent input and participation. We do this through our surveys and the link to the form on our website which allows parents to submit questions and suggestions.
