North Cavan Public School
March Update - 2024
March is Nutrition Month
North Cavan Public School has a truly incredible School Nutrition/Breakfast Program for our students. We have a reliable group of volunteers who support this program every day. Our students can have something from the Breakfast Bin each morning. There are also snacks available during the school day for those who might need a "top up". We know that good nutrition has an impact on student learning. Thank you so much to our team of volunteers for the work they do with the School Nutrition/Breakfast Program. It is truly appreciated!
March is Nutrition Month - it is a time to focus on the significance of good nutrition and how it helps with personal health. It is a time to reflect about how important it is to make good food choices, to develop good eating habits and to be involved in regular physical activity to promote well being. This is something that is true for students, but also for ourselves as their parents and guardians. We set an example with our own eating patterns and exercise routines.

Angela is the Community Development Coordinator for Central East Student Nutrition Program as well as Food For Kids City of Peterborough and County. They have shared with us a link to a video about Mindful Eating:

Something for us to consider as we think about Nutrition Month.

Next Assembly
March is a busy month with many activities taking place prior to our March Break and then we only have a couple of weeks after the Break.
Our next school assembly will be held in April and will be hosted by Ms. Morrallee's class . More details will follow about that closer to the time.
Change to April PA Day
The Board has approved a change to the 2023-2024 School Year Calendar, reflecting that the scheduled April 26, 2024 Professional Activity Day has been moved to April 8, 2024.
A total solar eclipse will be affecting all regions of the Board on April 8, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., causing diminished levels of daylight as it progresses. The peak of the eclipse will occur during dismissal time across the school board, increasing student safety concerns for safe travel and potentially damaging eye exposure to the sun at that time. Resources to support learning and student safety on that day will be shared throughout the school board community.
Sloppy Weather
We continue to have our outdoor time during the course of the school day during all seasons. At times, we do have pavement only recesses when things on the yard become soggy and wet. We still do have times though, when an extra pair of socks, pants or sweatshirt in a backpack would be so helpful.

Lunchbox items are delivered in time for our first nutrition break (boston pizza/subway) and in time for our second nutrition break (yoyos). Funds raised support school council's fundraising initiatives. (but please know we don't want anyone to feel obligated to purchase lunchbox items)
Please take a moment to review important information about our school's lunch program:
