Lions Park Paw Prints
Letter from the Principal
Dear Lions Park Families,
We have enjoyed participating in the Great Kindness Challenge with your children! 18 million students in 36,052 schools in 115 countries are part of this global kindness movement. Lions Park is proud to be involved. Your children have done a wonderful job of doing kind acts at school, and we hope you have seen some at home as well! On Monday, students received this checklist. If they complete at least fifteen items and turn it in with their name on the bottom by next Friday (February 4th), they will be entered into a raffle to win one of the ten autographed Matt Wilhelm posters he left after his December assembly. The raffle drawing will be on Monday, February 7th.
The cold and snow make our already challenging drop off and pick up situation worse. Because Lions Park School has a small amount of land and is surrounded by homes and park district property, we have limited space for drop off and pick up. Our typical issues are compounded when snow makes the streets around the school even more narrow and difficult to traverse. Our staff work hard to ensure student safety by providing safe crossing at Council and School and Council and Elm. We also have a staff member further north on School street and one who ensures safe crossing at the parking lot entrance. In addition to the efforts of our staff, we need cooperation from all parents and caregivers. Most of the street directly in front of the school are drop off only zones, and parking is prohibited. The staff parking lot can be used for drop off along the sidewalk only. Cars should not drop off anywhere in the parking lot, other than on the sidewalk along the school in the north end of the parking lot. In addition to dropping off only in designated areas, it helps to pull as far up as possible, even if it means your children will have to take a few extra steps. We appreciate you being mindful of where you park or stop to drop off your children. Please try to think about if your car location is going to create a hazard or disruption to traffic. Safety at drop off and pick up is a shared responsibility of all in our school community. If there are things you believe I can do to improve the situation, please don't hesitate to reach out to me.
Our top priority is keeping everyone safe.
As always, please feel free to reach out to me with questions or concerns.
Warmly,
Katie Kelly
Principal

COVID Vaccination
If your child has received two vaccine doses, you can submit proof of vaccination at this link. The form does require you to have a Google account. If you do not have a Google account, please email a photograph of the proof of vaccination to our school nurse, Mrs. Bauer, at cbauer@d57.org. Students who are two weeks past their second dose are considered to be fully vaccinated. State guidelines say that these students do not have to quarantine due to exposure to COVID. We will still notify these families if their child is a close contact, but the students may continue to come to school.
