Lambs Ledger
October 2022
Message from the Principal, Jamie McCarthy
I can't stress enough the importance of attendance. Making a solid effort to be on time and start a child's routine each and everyday (provided they are healthy) makes an immense difference. In the event your child is absent, please make sure you send in a handwritten note to your child's teacher. We have a focus on attendance this year and will be working diligently with you to ensure that students are in school and learning.
Thank you for being a partner in your child's education. Together we can provide a rewarding experience for every student.

In 2nd grade we are learning about El Dia de los Muertos and making sugar skulls. 3rd graders are learning about the art of Pedro Linares and Alebrijes. 4th graders are learning about the art of Frida Kahlo, the many obstacles she overcame, and her love of all things Mexico! Finally, 5th graders are learning about radial symmetry and creating Hojalatas (Mexican folk tin art). !Viva la Vida!
Library with Mrs. Smith- We are excited to check out spooky books and are eager to celebrate Hispanic Heritage month! Upper elementary students are focused on meeting their Accelerated Reader goals by the end of the semester on October 19th so that they can participate in the AR Celebration on October 28th! First and second grade classes have been focusing on coding in the library and if asked, should be able to tell you exactly what coding is and how we have created our own class instructions on how to be good students, just as coding provides instructions that tells computers what to do. We are also looking forward to our Scholastic Book Fair that will take place from October 10th- October 14th!
Music with Ms. Martin- Kindergarten, First, and Second grades will be actively engaged in rhythmic activities on instruments, learning new fall songs, focusing on seasons, and improving motor skills through a variety of tempos on instruments and movement.
Third, Fourth, and Fifth graders will be preparing for a Charleston Symphony Woodwind Ensemble performance at the school. They will be focusing on careers in music, the families of the orchestra, audience etiquette, and the history of instruments. These students will also be engaged in a variety of new musical games to enhance their musical knowledge with the
orchestra.
Third graders will start lessons on the recorder. We are preparing for a March
field trip to the Charleston Symphony Orchestra’s Carnegie Hall Series to sing and perform with the CSO.
Fourth graders will start discovering various aspects of the musical. This will
include a reading of the musical “Annie”.
Fifth graders will be using their ELA skills with reenactments of the writing of the
Star Spangled Banner, focusing on the Battle of 1812.
All grades continue to earn musical class points towards a Music Fun Day!
