SMCISD Inaugural Gala
The San Marcos Education Foundation presented the inaugural SMCISD Gala. This formal event honored our twelve Teachers of the Year, Years-of-Service employees, Retirees, the Leadership Excellence Award Recipient, Mr. Scott Masini and the unique Rattler Resilience awardee, Mrs. Nancy Lucio. Huge thanks to the dedicated members of the SMCISD Human Resources and the Communication Departments for all your hard work in making this event possible.
Novice Teacher Graduation
The SMCISD Office of Academics celebrated our first-year educators with a graduation style ceremony on Monday, May 15. Congratulations to our Rattler Rookie teachers and thank you for giving our students your very best each and everyday this year! We are thrilled you have chose to continue your professional journey's as members of Rattler Nation.
Final Leap Leads to Lamar University
Congratulations to Exavion Harris for a successful high school career. X represented #SMCISD at the UIL State Track & Field meet and earned 4th place in Triple Jump! We wish you all the best as you continue your academic and athletic career at Lamar University.
Strikers Have Talent
Our Mendez Strikers have talent! Our Mendez Elementary students showcased their wonderful music skills, outstanding tumbling, fabulous cheering, and outstanding baile folklórico dancing during their talent show on Tuesday, May 16.
Mendez Elementary honored its volunteers for the 2022-23 school year with a celebratory breakfast on Wednesday, May 17. Volunteers were welcomed with coffee and a spread of breakfast foods. Mendez Strikers performed during the event, including the ukulele club, baile folklorico, and theater club.
Splashing Bears
Bonham Pre-K has celebrated water days throughout the week of May 15-19. Our Bonham Bears had the chance to go down a water slide, jump through water sprinklers and play with sand during the week. Bonham students were even reward with Kona Ice snow cones on Wednesday, May 17.
High School Diploma + Associate's Degree = Rattler Up
San Marcos CISD is proud to present the inaugural Early College High School (ECHS) Class of 2023! This program is comprised of SMHS students who have earned their Associate's Degree and high school diploma, simultaneously. The ECHS program still allows students to participate in extracurricular activities, obtain CTE certifications, take Advanced Placement courses, and even participate in clubs and organizations.
The SMCISD Communications department will be featuring graduates every week, leading up to graduation, via social media, our website and the Rattler Recap. If you see any of our ECHS grads, be sure to wish them a warm Rattler congratulations!
Superstar Field Day
Crockett Elementary hosted a field day full of fun games, an obstacle course, and relay races for our kindergarten through second grade Superstars on Tuesday, May 16. The day ended with Kona snow cones and a dance party.
Amazon Primes Diamonds For Future
Amazon visited our De Zavala Diamonds on Thursday, May 18 where they were given a virtual video tour of the company's facilities. They learned about Amazon’s software, procedures, and daily operations. Amazon employees also interacted with our Diamonds by taking part in trivia questions throughout the presentation.
SMHS Criminal Justice
Students in San Marcos High School's Forensic Science program were able to hear and interact with professionals in the field on May 17 and May 18. Our Rattlers heard from the San Marcos Police Department's Crime Scene Investigation; State Troopers Crime Scene, Evidence Collection; SMPD K9 training and assistance; and SMPD drones and robotics in law enforcement.
Battle of the Books
Crockett Elementary won this year’s Battle of the Books. The competition pits teams from each elementary school in the district against each other in an event that celebrates reading. Crockett earned a trophy for winning this year’s Battle of the Books, which took place at the San Marcos Public Library on Friday, May 12.
Leveling Up
Six San Marcos High School have committed and signed to play their sport during their collegiate careers: Madelyn Boren, Lexi Carpenter, Nikolas Hall, Exavion Harris, Kevin Morales, Shane Moss, Marley Myers, Mateus Perkins, and Malik Presley. These Rattlers were celebrated at a signing ceremonies on Thursday, May 11 and Monday, May 15, where they were recognized and honored for their time at SMHS. Congratulations to our Rattlers!
Books Are The Beginning
Local nonprofit Books Are The Beginning visited Mendez Elementary School on Wednesday, May 10. Students were given two books and were able to select three additional books to take home with them. Books Are The Beginning has worked with several San Marcos CISD schools to provide books for kids.
Superior Sounds
San Marcos High School Chamber and Philharmonic orchestras were named "Best In Festival" at the Big D Classic Festival in Garland on Friday, May 12. Both orchestras received superior ratings at the contest. Alongside their superior rating, the Philharmonic orchestra received the outstanding performance award. The Chamber orchestra also earned the outstanding performance award. Orchestra members Kaila Adams and Ben Keller were named outstanding soloists. Congratulations to our SMHS orchestras for their phenomenal performances.
Generous Donation
San Marcos High School ACL student Kaden Mattson received a generous donation to help him take part in construction courses. Kaden, who uses a motor wheelchair, received a table/desk that would allow him to take part in his construction elective course. The desk helps support him to be able to use a saw and other tools in the workshop. Mr. Tim Bushacker and Mr. Lively Bryner helped design the desk. Materials for Kaden’s desk were donated by Mr. Gary Cooper, Superintendent for Rudick Construction Group’s Austin operation.
Kindergarten Here They Come
Our Bonham Bears are one step closer to kindergarten. Bonham Pre-K students visited the elementary schools they’ll be attending next school year on Tuesday, May 9 and Wednesday, May 10.
5th Grade Fun
Our elementary schools battled against each other in fierce competition during racing events and team contests at this year’s 5th Grade Track Meet on Tuesday, May 9.
Diamonds' Passions Shine Bright
De Zavala Elementary hosted its Gifted and Talented SPARK Fair on Thursday, May 11, where students were able to showcase their passion projects during the event. Congratulations to our De Zavala Diamonds for displaying their talents during the fair.
