Director of Safety and Security
June 7, 2023
To Our District 67 and District 115 School Community:
I am pleased to announce that I will recommend the approval of Charles G. Walsh as the new Shared Services Director of Safety and Security at the District 115 Board of Education meeting on June 13, and the District 67 Board of Education meeting on June 20. Mr. Walsh would begin his role on July 1, 2023, reporting to me.
The Director of Safety and Security for Districts 67 and 115 is responsible for the oversight of all safety and security programs and services to ensure safe environments in all District schools and buildings including Cherokee, Everett, and Sheridan Elementary Schools, Deer Path Middle School, and Lake Forest High School East and West Campuses. The Director will oversee student discipline in conjunction with the schools, ensure compliance with building access safety protocols, provide school staff with training related to safety and security, recommend and implement procedures and best practices to prevent and deter violence, and serve as liaison with local and state first responders.
Mr. Walsh retired earlier this year as the Police Chief of Elk Grove Village where he previously held the positions of Deputy Police Chief of Field Services and Support Services, Commander, Sergeant, and Police Officer. With over 30 years of experience in law enforcement, Mr. Walsh has directed and supervised hundreds of police officers and civilian staff, developed goals and objectives with community partners, supervised criminal and youth investigations, and implemented successful community-wide programs.
He holds a Master of Science in Organizational Development from Benedictine University, a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and an Associate of Arts in Business from Moraine Valley Community College. He has also trained with the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service at the University of Virginia, the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, the School of Police Staff and Command at Northwestern University, and the Chicago Police Academy.
“I am thrilled about this opportunity to serve Lake Forest School Districts 67 and 115 as Director of Safety and Security,” said Mr. Walsh. “I look forward to developing partnerships to ensure the safest practices for our exceptional staff and community.”
Mr. Walsh was selected from a highly competitive pool of 38 applicants. He impressed our interview team (including District parents) with his deep knowledge of law enforcement and safety and security trends and ability to work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams. I am confident that Mr. Walsh will have a significant impact on the safety and security of Districts 67 and 115.
Sincerely,
Matthew L. Montgomery, Ph.D.
Superintendent
