Week In Review and a Look Ahead: Friday, August 25, 2023
Principal's Message
What a great start to our school year! We've had a very busy and productive week at MSE. We welcomed back our returning 8th and 7th graders while ushering in our newest 6th graders from the class of 2030. With the help of our Bear Ambassadors, our 6th graders quickly learned to navigate our halls and lockers and we set a good tone for the school year.
Thank you to our families for helping prepare our students to get us started on the right note. Our car line has been running smoothly and our bus routes and timing improves each day. Please review the important information below on our updated dismissal times and car line dismissal.
On Tuesday, August 29, we begin our second 6-day cycle, and all students will begin attending their 10th period clubs, ensembles, study groups, and various support sessions. The grade level counselors are able to make any changes if a student still wishes to join a club and there is space. There are opportunities for students to receive extra help during period 10 in certain subjects as well so please keep that in mind as the year progresses.
Regards,
Andrew T. Maoury
8th Grade Bear Ambassadors Brian Ruoss, Callie Cameron & John Hewitt
7th Graders Lily Guldin, Gianna Bartholomew, Patricia Atherholt, Aeva Finegan, Ava Hoffman, Bryce Franklin & Mason Babcock
6th Graders Colin Dieser, Abigail Stanchak, Julia Rudinsky & Ryan Ulrich
Car Line Dismissal Procedures
Please note the following changes that will allow us more undisturbed time in the afternoon and an easier pathway for students to secure their way home during the afternoon dismissal. Until further notice:
- Period 9 ends at 1:48 (this is not a change)
- Period 10 begins at 1:53 (this is two minutes later than our normal time)
- All students are to go to their lockers between period 9 and 10 and take everything they need for period 10 and to go home (this is a change)
- At 2:20, football players will be dismissed by PA to board the transport bus to MSW (this is not a change)
- At 2:30, Early Buses 41 and 22, 6th grade car riders, and all vans will be dismissed (this is a change)
- Students must report directly to buses/ vans/ cars and should get there without stopping at lockers.
- Those students with special needs who require more time to get to the van pick-up area may leave earlier with their supporting teachers and aides.
- At 2:35, the bell will ring dismissing 1st round buses and 7th grade car riders. We will continue to make PA announcements with this as well for a few more days (this is a slight change)
- At 2:40, the bell will ring dismissing 8th grade car riders, athletes, and second round bus riders to the café (this is not a change)
- Car drivers are asked to not report before their pick-up times. This will reduce a clogging of our car rider loop.
- All cars must turn right onto Big Road/ 73 when exiting our campus.
- Utilize the entire length of the sidewalk when dropping off/ picking up students.
- Those students who require more time to get in and out of the car (those on crutches for example) should wait until their car is all the way up to the end of the sidewalk to enter and exit. This allows others to safely pass them and to keep the line moving.
MSE Library Updates
What’s in the library?
There are 25,000 items in the Middle School East Library including almost 7,000 fiction books, over 800 graphic novels, and 13 chess sets. Students can check out microscopes. We have 20 craft kits (knitting, crocheting, hat looms, and scarf looms). The kids can keep the yarn they use. We also take yarn donations!
Due Dates
Books are checked out for two weeks. They can be renewed multiple times as long as another student is not waiting. Due date cards are in the back of books.

Dress Code Reminder
This is a reminder about dress code expectations. Full guidelines can be found by clicking HERE and scrolling to page 16. The most common and easily avoidable issues that we face and are not allowed are:
- No hats or wearing hoods while in the building
- No muscle shirts/tank-tops or revealing tops with "spaghetti" straps
- No shirts that are short and expose areas of the midriff (this is a significant issue during warm-weather days)
- No bottoms that are excessively short and/or expose parts of one's rear-end
- No pajamas or pajama like bottoms
