Michelle (Rogers) Villegas-Gold Undergraduate Scholarship in Psychology - $15,000

• Full-time undergraduate Psychology or Psychological Science Major in their 1st, 2nd or 3rd year
• Financial need or inability to obtain Federal Financial Aid
• Preference for first-generation college students
• Preference for students who demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in gender issues, sexual trauma, or mental health issues.

The John Weiner and Lynne Lehrman Weiner Memorial Scholarship - $2,500

• Full-time undergraduate Psychology or Psychological Science Major in their 3rd or 4th year
• Have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher
• Currently be conducting research in a Psychology lab
• Preference for students who plan to pursue a graduate degree in Psychology

Colin Harwood-McCollester Undergraduate Scholarship in Psychology – up to $500

• Undergraduate student majoring in Psychology

Job Description/Responsibilities

• Assist the Psychology Academic Advisors in mentoring undergraduate Psychology majors

• Co-facilitate 1-hour weekly classes (class times are dependent on schedule) on topics such as fields of Psychology, engagement opportunities, graduate school overview, resume writing, learning styles and study strategies, networking, campus resources

• Provide accurate and reliable information regarding all of the above topics

• Meet with mentees once a month outside of class during the semester, about 10 hours a week

• Attend weekly staff meetings (time and day to be determined), about 1.5 hours a week

• Keep detailed and accurate notes in student files

This study will use behavioral measures to better understand how people think in their daily lives. Do people have more of a mind's mind (verbal or auditory form of imagination) or mind's eye (visual form of imagination). In addition, does form of imaginative thought predict how well people remember. I am interested in recruiting a student who has a strong interest in research and is able to commit at least 9 hours a week for one year minimum (and ideally more) and can start this summer. The Human Memory Lab is looking for several undergraduates who are interested in gaining research experience through independent study or directed research.

In our lab, we use behavioral, cognitive, and naturalistic observation measures to address a variety of questions about memory. This project combines in-lab-testing with real-world, out-of-lab data to look at cognitive signs associated with the genetic risk of Alzheimer's disease. We're also looking at the components of autobiographical memory that might be sensitive to Alzheimer's disease risk.

Commitment is at least 2 semesters (3 credits per semester; 9 hours per week), starting Fall 2022. Research assistants will need to be available to attend approximately 15 to 20 hours of in-person training that will take place over one week of Summer 2022 (dates TBD).

This is a great opportunity for undergraduates interested in graduate/medical school and can provide experience in data analyses, entry, coding, transcribing, participation in lab meetings and discussions, and being a valued member of a research team.
