Bolt's Bulletin
November 2023
Principal Message
As we step into the beautiful month of November, I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the wonderful school community we have here at Skyline. This month is the perfect time to reflect on the values that make us strong, the goals that drive us forward, and the heroes who have sacrificed for our freedom.
Gratitude is an essential virtue, and November is often associated with giving thanks. I encourage all of us to take a moment each day to express our thankfulness for the simple and profound blessings in our lives. It is easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the season, but true happiness often comes from recognizing and appreciating what we have, both in our school and personal lives.
At Skyline, we continuously strive to instill leadership habits in our students, and this month, we are focusing on Habit 2: "Begin with the End in Mind." This habit encourages us all to set goals and envision the outcomes we wish to achieve. It's about knowing what we want and planning how to get there. Our students are learning that a clear vision and setting achievable objectives are key to success in any endeavor. I encourage parents to discuss this habit with your child and explore how it can be applied in their daily lives.
November also brings with it Veterans Day, a day where we remember and honor the brave individuals who have selflessly served in the armed forces to protect our freedoms. It is a day to express our gratitude for their sacrifices. Thank you Veterans!
Thank you all for being a part of our incredible Skyline family. Wishing you a November filled with warmth and kindness.
With gratitude and warm wishes,
Erik Olson
Habit #2: Begin with the End in Mind
Have a Plan!
Begin with the End in Mind is a valuable life skill we're teaching our Skyline students. When you "Begin with the End in Mind" you have a clear understanding of your goals and what you want to achieve. It's about setting a destination before you begin your journey. We believe this habit is crucial for personal and academic success.
As parents, you can reinforce this habit by encouraging your children to:
- Set Goals: Help your child identify their short-term and long-term goals. What do they want to accomplish? What's their vision for the future?
- Plan Ahead: Teach your child to make plans, create schedules, and think about the steps needed to reach their goals.
- Stay Focused: Encourage your child to stay committed to their objectives, even when challenges arise.
- Reflect: After completing a task or project, ask your child to reflect on what they learned and how they can apply this knowledge in the future.
By practicing Habit #2 at home, you'll empower your child to become a responsible, goal-oriented individual who can take control of their future. We're excited to work together to help your children develop this important life skill.

Note from the Nurse
A note from your school nurses: Cooler weather has set in and we are seeing more illness at school. Also, make sure you send students to school with weather appropriate clothes as outside temperatures begin to drop.
Please remember that hand washing, staying home when you're sick, and avoiding close contact with symptomatic people are all steps we can take towards illness prevention. I have included fact sheets on RSV and Influenza, as we have seen cases in our Spokane community. Thank you all for your partnership in keeping school a healthy learning environment.
