A message from Mr. Ryder
Dear Overlook Families,
We have had a wonderful start to the school year! Our Overlook Grizzlies have done a terrific job during these first few weeks of learning routines and expectations for being safe, kind, and responsible throughout the building. I have had the pleasure of visiting the classrooms and reading aloud to the classes. It is wonderful to see our kids' excitement for learning and willingness to share their thoughts and ideas.
I am impressed by the way our students have stepped up to help each other. We have 4th-grade students assuming leadership roles in our school by helping with announcements and by escorting our preschool students to their classes. Our butterfly garden near the building entrance is coming to life as there are now plants in the ground. The students already love using the stepping stones.
I know that the start of a new school year can be a time of transition for both students and families. If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me, our school counselor, or your child's teacher. We are here to help!
Thank you for your continued support of Overlook Elementary School. I am confident that this will be a great year for our students, staff, and families.
Sincerely,
Mr. Ryder, Principal

September Board Student of the Month
Lexi Smith is the daughter of Tia-Marie and Tyler Smith. She was nominated for Student of the Month by her third and fourth-grade teachers. Her teachers describe her as “a responsible student who is always looking for ways to help others.” They praise her for being “inclusive and a great leader in small groups.” And goes on to say “Lexi takes the initiative to produce high-quality work.”
Away from school, Lexi enjoys playing the piano, playing volleyball, and drawing. She enjoys sitting outside and drawing things in nature, such as flowers and trees.
At school, she enjoys language arts class and has recently begun reading the Harry Potter series. She and Mrs. Pecnik are reading it together and Lexi enjoys their “book talks.” She also likes math class this year with Mrs. Bennett. Lexi has a love and passion for school and learning. She is one of the few students who actually enjoys doing homework. Although we are early in the school year, Lexi is taking on leadership roles in 4th grade. She has helped with announcements. She assists our preschool students in the morning by escorting them to their classes.
As the year progresses, we know that she will continue to be an amazing student and leader for her peers at Overlook. She exemplifies the Overlook way by being safe, kind, and responsible.
Congratulations to Lexi Smith, Overlook Elementaries September Board Student of the Month.
Help Wanted: To Stock the Staff Rock Star Cart
Our Rock Star Cart will make its rounds to the classrooms to recognize and celebrate our wonderful staff. We are accepting donations of candy, small bags of chips, pop, and gift cards ($5-$10).
Your donation will help us to show our staff how much we appreciate their hard work and dedication. Thank you for your support!
Here are some suggestions for candy and chips that you could donate:
- chocolate bars, gum, mints, chewy candy (starburst, skittles, sour patch)
- potato chips (small bags), popcorn
You could also donate gift cards to stores, restaurants or coffee shops. This would give our staff the opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal or snack on their break.
No matter what you donate, we are sure that our staff will appreciate your thoughtfulness. Thank you for helping us to celebrate our Rock Stars! (Donations can be dropped off in the OV office.)

Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Laino
Every class has had their first classroom guidance lesson for the school year. Kindergarten students received a lesson on who is the School Counselor and what I do here at Overlook. 1st through 4th-grade students received a lesson on the Zones of Regulation and how to have a healthy body and healthy mind.
Newsletters come home after each lesson, so if you want to know more about what your child learned, check his/her folder for that information. I have enjoyed going into the classrooms and spending time with all our Overlook Grizzlies.
All elementary schools are doing something new this year: having one on one-minute meetings with each kiddo, Kindergarten through 4th grade. I have had the opportunity to sit down with several Overlook Grizzlies to see how their school year is going so far.
If you have any questions or concerns or if there is anything I can help you with please don't hesitate to reach out.
Pre-School Physicals
Please be sure to get physicals in if they are due. All new students have 30 days from the first day of school to have one on file with the clinic per licensing rules. If you have any questions regarding this, email Ashley Ruedisueli (aruedisueli@wadsworthschools.org).
