The Year of Celebrations
Week of Feb. 12, 2024
Happy Lunar New Year to our families who celebrate! We had a great learning morning announcement by Christina and Kenzie on Friday teaching the school about this international celebration!
This is Kindness Week! We will be celebrating a variety of ways the JCS community can show kindness to one another and taking on a challenge to hit 500 Random Acts of Kindness by the end of the week! Thank you Theme Team and Mrs. Sala for setting this up!
We are pleased to announce that a long-term friend of JCS and dedicated employee has taken on the role of special education teacher at JCS. Congrats to the wonderful Mrs. Farley!!
We have some events planned this week that are weather-dependent. With a storm coming Tuesday, please keep an eye out for notifications via email or text.
Have a great week everyone!
Dr. Marcus and Ms. Callanan
REMINDER: Friday is an Early Release Day!
Important Info
Electives
Many thanks to so many volunteers from our parent, NHS, Wheaton, and NPS central office community! We have about 40 courses to offer representing a WIDE range of interests and activities.
A Course Choice Form will be coming home shortly with clear instructions on signing up your child for one of the courses. Again, they run on Friday afternoons Mar. 1 - Apr 2, last period. If you are still able to help with a course, please email Dr. M asap.
Starry Night! Wednesday!
Looks like a SNOW-COVERED family event sponsored by the SPO in collaboration with the Norton Outdoor Center. Please keep an eye out for an email confirming this event.
On Wednesday, families are invited to come over to the NOC, and check out the starry night on the big field. We'll have a couple of volunteer experts from Wheaton College, some telescopes, and hot chocolate to warm up. This is all weather permitting of course, but what a great way to spend an hour on Valentine's Day!!
Mosaic Mural Update
JCS's latest art project, under the brilliant guidance of Artist in Residence, Josh Winer, is coming along beautifully. Thank you SPO and NEED for making this possible! The student work is now done and Josh (and any volunteers) will be color grouting and cleaning the artwork this week. (Email Dr. M if you can help grout.) Look out for an invite to the final unveiling at the beginning of March!
100th Day!

Lastly, both singers and parent-volunteers must register AND purchase tickets. To register your singer(s), to volunteer and/or to purchase tickets, go to the JSC-SPO Linktree
Scholastic Book Fair
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to the JCS at the end of the month on Tuesday, February 27th and Wednesday, February 28th (with a Family Night Wednesday evening). (By going to ParentSquare you can find when your student will be attending the bookfair). Please reach out to us with any questions: spo.jcs@gmail.com
