Treat Street, Trolley Rides, and Reindeer
Tuesday, December 19 will be a special day for students and staff as we celebrate the holidays. The treat street dessert will be jingling and hot chocolate will be served after students enjoy visiting reindeer and taking a horse drawn trolley ride. We will need lots of baked goods for treat street! Please remember us when you are doing your holiday baking! Please deliver baked goods to the kitchen on the morning of December 19. If you need a container returned please make sure it is labeled. Please avoid baked goods with nuts and if they have nuts or peanut butter please label as such. If your item is gluten free please label as such. Thank you in advance! Everyone also shares such wonderful baked goods! See photos for examples.
It is Santa Shop Week! Please Get Involved!
Students will have a chance to purchase gifts for family and friends this week! Last week your students should have brought home a purchase planning envelope. Parents are encouraged to complete the envelope with their child. The student may bring the envelope to the Santa Shop to purchase items. We recommend sending in dollar amounts not to exceed an amount of cash you are comfortable sending to school with your child. Pricing will be $1 to $25 per item.
We would like to thank all of the crafty and creative parents and families that donated items to sell at the Santa Shop!
We are in need of volunteer to help with the Santa Shop! Tasks include, helping students shop, making change, helping students pack up their items, and overall being of good holiday cheer! If you could make some time to help out, please sign up here: Volunteer Sign Up
Update on Genesse Street and Lake Drive
We want to thank everyone for their patience during the Genesee Street construction project. You made it! Genesee is again fully open and we can resume using the Genesee Street entrance to Lake Drive. Those families that pick up in Grades 4-8 (by the gym lobby/north parking lot) can resume coming in off of Genesee Street. Those families that pick up in the south (kindergarten) or west lot (Grades 1-3) should continue to enter Lake Drive from DeMille Blvd.
One critical note: Genesee is now just one lane where people turn right onto Lake Drive. If traffic happens to back up on Lake Drive off of Genesee and you are trying to turn right onto Lake Drive, you cannot stop and block traffic in the east bound land of Genesee.
The week after Thanksgiving we immediately saw relief to the pick up traffic flow when Genesee St. opened. We hope that you noticed this too!

There will be practice/Skill weeks and game weeks. They will alternate back and forth. The skill weeks will be run like a camp (by Mr. Boyle), but with smaller numbers and very focused instruction. We would like coaches/parents to help and be involved/assist on practice days as well. On game dates there will be no practice time before their games. Boys and girls in grades 1-2 will play on 8 foot baskets during the season (between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.) while those in grades 3-5 will play their games on regulation 10 foot baskets (between 11:30 and 1:30 p.m.).
Each game will consist of two 20 minute “running clock” halves while being officiated with volunteer officials trained by a licensed basketball official through the MHSAA.
**Returning for 2024--Depending on numbers Mr. Boyle is considering separating boys and girls if possible. I am not sure how this will work, but I think it would be a better experience for all involved. Participation will dictate whether we can do this.**

Celebrate Chatfield Dolphins Success!
Does your child have something to celebrate - perhaps an athletic accomplishment, a dance competition result, a special camp or program completion? We want to celebrate extra-curricular student success too! Let us know about it and we will celebrate it in the newsletter and on Facebook/Instagram. Send an email to Mr. Kraly (bkraly@chatfieldschool.org) with your child's first and last name, information about the success, and a quality picture (jpeg) or video.

Weather Related School Closures Update
It’s that time of year again when we must discuss winter school closings, the weather and roads can be an issue this time of year. Mr. Kraly and Mr. Young want you to know that they are always concerned about the safety of the students and parents.
We will be working with the superintendents from other local school districts and the Lapeer Intermediate School District to determine the conditions around the county. If your local district is closed that does not mean that Chatfield is closed.
The school directors will make the determination as early as possible and send out messages via:
Radio: WWJ 950, WJR 760, WMPC 1230
Television: Fox 2, Local 4, ABC 7, WWJTV CBS,
CW 50, ABC 12
Internet: www.chatfieldschool.org
Skylert School Messenger: Parents can adjust
their contact preferences, E-mail, Text, Phone Call,
by going into Skyward Family Access and clicking on
the Skylert tab.
As a general rule of thumb Chatfield School does not have early release on days when the weather and roads become worse during the day. We will provide updates regarding the status of evening activities by posting them to the school website. Road conditions can vary around the county and on different surfaces so as always use your best judgment and safety when determining if you should drive to school. Safety is always our first priority.
